The imperials keep breaking on the defences of this hiveworld. Battle played with epic 40k rules. link |

I've been playing Epic since '90 … I've notice this before in your AARs. You really don't understand how to use Infantry or combined arms. You put them on the board with no transport, supporting tanks, artillery or aircraft. You have them walking around in the open. Then you waste Titan firepower on them. When they pose little to no threat to Titans while enemy Titans are still alive ? Titans should only shoot at Titans until there are no more Titans to shoot at. What purpose do 8 stands of Infantry serve walking around in the open ? With no support. You may as well just play a Titan battle ? Now … Go to the Tactical Command site. Learn how to use combined arms that includes Infantry, Tanks, Artillery, Aircraft and Titans from the "experts" over there … Then come back here and post your AAR after you post on Tac Cmd and learned … Tactics, etc. … You are dismissed … Carry on … |

…wow…I'm truly speechless…wow… |

Frankly, I'm torn here. First, I want to tell noigrim that his armies are well painted and presented, and that it seemed like a good game, since it was enjoyable for the players. So enjoyable, that he/she wished to share it with others. Second, and equally, I feel Legion 4's frustration here; Similar to that of a chess player watching a couple of kids taking a beautiful antique chess set and playing with it a game of checkers. Yes, it's still tactical game, but it's so simplistic, and wasteful of the opportunities involved. Thirdly, I have to wonder if noigrim *has* complete armies to field, and if like many people in the hobby simply fields what he has. . . . Maybe we can all think on those to ourselves for a few minutes. |

For an argument to ensue there must always be two. |

Guys, First of all I was not being 100% serious … note the : . And even the for heaven's sake ! As I said I've been playing Epic since '90. So I've seen many many games and game styles, etc. … My comments were more of humorous suggestions. And if you know me, my sense of humor does not always convert over to the net. And … I always say … Do What Works For U … Not me … I think Covert Walrus understood what I was trying to say. And no, there is no argument intended. Just maybe some hopefully "good" suggestions. Chill out guys. It's just a game … have a good time. This is my feelings as well and equally, I feel Legion 4's frustration here; Similar to that of a chess player watching a couple of kids taking a beautiful antique chess set and playing with it a game of checkers. Yes, it's still tactical game, but it's so simplistic, and wasteful of the opportunities involved.
But again, Do What Works For U … Not me. But I feel you are missing out on some good gaming experiences with Epic. With all the models available, etc. … Not just from GW on eBay. But from a plethora of other 6mm SF model makers … No harm … not foul … I feel a bit badly now my intent was not taken in the vain it was meant … |

@noigrim Not intending to hijack this thread…but I've been looking at epic 40k for some time. My son is into sci-fi much more than historical and I'd like to get him into gaming. Is it an overly complicated game to play? I'm attracted to it by the size/scale of it all. It seems less intimidating somehow when the infantry units are that size ;)
Anyway the report is an excellent advertisement for the game as its obvious you're having fun with it. Keep up the good work |

Yes, I was a bit harsh and my attempt at humor was a failure. Panda, the Tactical Command site covers all versions of Epic. As I said, I have playing since '90. IMO Epic 40K is probably not too complicated … you may want to look at Epic: Armageddon and NetEA too on the Tac Cmd site – link |

@WarPanda, maybe Future War Commander would be easier than Epic, but still I think NetEpic or Epic2 is simple enough for kids with a little help. Then there is also that ruleset that Ivan Sorensen is planning to do in this scale… |

NetEpic is pretty easy to learn and the books are free. All the versions of Epic are very good. Epic 40K suffers a little from being kind of abstract. On the upside, there's not a lot of unit special rules to remember. As Blacksmith said, I have some plans, but I am not 100% sure when they'll happen. There's 3 or so projects that are all good candidates for the next one. When I do it, it'll definitely be on the easier side of things. |

Good point blacksmith, FMC might a bit easier than E40K or E:A. But IMO, SM2 was the worst of the Epic rule sets. And IMO it was geared towards the "kids". Now for another interesting rule set. And it is FREE – the SEEDS OF WAR rules from DRM. You can download them directly from their website. Another good set of rules which is really good and not too complex but certainly has the detail is The Crucible. |

Played space marine epic in the 90s then picked up epic 40k starter. Was stopped in my tracks by the three books included, it jut seems to much to be fun. How much reading for bet epic? |
Legion 4 | 08 May 2015 4:06 a.m. PST |
About the NetEpic rules … the short answer is it kind of like like SM2 … but with activation like Epic: Armageddon … and generally a much better cleaned SM2 system. Again go to Tac Cmd and you can see more about NetEpic/NetEA … |

noigrim, I sent you a PM on Tac Cmd … |

Thanks for the info guys…I didn't realize Ivan had his thumb in this pie too…how naïve of me :) BTW I have sympathy for Legion 4's post…my stupid sense of humor gets me in trouble all the time here on the net. In reality my sarcasm is much more obvious… |
Mithmee | 08 May 2015 4:22 p.m. PST |
Thing is back in the day (20+ years ago) when we played Epic you could expect to see 8+ Titans and tons of troops and vehicles per side. |

Glad to help all guys interested in Epic and 6mm Sci-fi! Like I said, got my first SM1 game in early '90 … And still painting more and more 6mm Sci-fi for my Epic and other 6mm Sci-fi Armies. I collect all the Epic GW Armies plus a few others like 6mm Hammer's Slammers. I have just about every model GW/FW have released for Epic. Save for some Knights. I'm not a real fan of Knights. But have some with my Chaos forces. - I have about 20 or so Imperial Titans of all types. And even 3 ORGEs I use as Titans ! Plus about 8 Ork Gargants of all types and about 7 Eldar Titans. Many times we'd not even use Titans, just all the other forces available. And other times, we'd use nothing but Titans. In Titans vs. Titans or Gargants only big bash ! So I guess in my attempt at GI-like humor in try in let noigrim [and others] know. In the Epic "buffet" and 6mm Sci-fi "universe" in general, there are a lot of options out there today.
- And if you guys know me, being a former Grunt. I cringe sometimes the way I see the how some deploy and use Infantry and other units of the combined arms concept, etc. …
- Regardless as I have been saying on the net for decades[and in real life !] when is comes to gaming [or anything] really … Do What Works For You … Not me !
- Now in saying that, I won't pass up a chance in a good natured way [or attempt !]. To make a bit of fun of ya if you paint your AFVs, Infantry, FA, aircraft, Titans, etc., etc., in circus colors. Or you use your assets in a less than tactical manner. But it is not meant to be mean spirited. Just good natured "fun'n wit ya !"
