I believe they are 20mm, possibly 15mm, dwarf or Vikings.

Red-Box Games, I believe.

Mute Bystander06 May 2015 3:18 a.m. PST

I thought so too but I couldn't confirm what figures they were when I went to the web site.

Thanks, maybe I can look again and ascertain just exactly which figures they might be.

Okay, first picture, third figure is Merry Stigandr Hornskald I believe so I appear to be on the right track.

Landorl06 May 2015 6:20 a.m. PST

Are they 15mm?

I believe Red Box figures are 1/72, or 20mm. Cheers!

The OP stated, "I believe they are 20mm, possibly 15mm…"

They look tall for 15mm next to my 15/18mm figures from other manufacturers.

These were acquired second hand hence my request to identify maker.

The prices seem more like 25+mm prices on the web site.

Red box games dwarves. I think he removes pics of discontinued models. They are smaller 28mm figures.

Mute Bystander06 May 2015 3:09 p.m. PST

Dwarves that are appropriately sized. Wow, that is great. If I collected 25+mm figures (other than 1970s/early 1980s) that would be very attractive.

Alas, I don't.

Thanks for the Help, all!

As i recall, red Box Games did two sizes of the same minis for the same scale. There have been topics over this issue in recent years. I cant recall if the current line is the smaller stuff or the previous stuff is smaller. Best to ask Tre.

Grimnar,

I am sure there is a reason Tre did that but it really makes it difficult to know what figure would be compatible with other figures because the website pictures do not have a standard scale to compare the figures to for buyers.

Of course I sold them on Ebay for $13 USD as I am trying to rationalize my figures so it doesn't matter now.

Still, When I look at figures online I wonder – will "these," (using fantasy as an example,) goblins/dwarves/elves match up with my [insert <Der Kriegspieler dwarves/elves/orcs/goblins, Ral Partha Wizards, Warriors and Warlocks, Ral partha Fantasy Collector's series, Denizen Dwarves, or Grenadier Halfings and Dwarves> as desired.]

There are the same considerations when I look at SF and historical figures for armies/skirmish forces.

Having two sizes of the same figure at the same nominal "size/scale" only makes it more challenging.

There were Hill Dwarves and Dvergr, some were larger, stockier figures, others are the smaller more 'small human' sort. Different breeds of Dwarves. Mush like the Aenglish and Njorn are both human, but the Njorn are stockier, taller Viking/Norse types compared to the domesticated, urbane city dwelling Aenglish type humans.

As far as the Dwarves go, both styles are currently produced. And yes, Tre takes discontinued minis off his page as they are no longer for sale.

Both 'breeds' of Dwarf are _true_ 28mm scale, so they are not cartoony bloated in their proportions, they are set to be like a real person and his equipment would look – not oversized or bloated.

I'm fairly certain the smaller will fit with the old '01' and '02' range figures from Ral, although they would still be more stout than them. The larger with more up to date figures, being taller and stockier.

Hope that helps.

Thank you for the evaluation, richkurtin.

Appreciated.

Does it really matter with Dwarves? I would imagine, like humans, there would be tall, short, fat, slim Dwarves.

Mute Bystander19 May 2015 7:46 a.m. PST

Gunner Dunbar.

Short Answer, yes.

Long Answer, in 25+mm games it depends on if I want them to play alongside my 1970s humans (25 mm to top of head) or along my Ral Partha (Wizards, Warriors, and Warlocks) Dwarf figures or my Ral Partha "Fantasy Collector" Dwarf figures or my Der Kriegspieler Fantastiques Dwarf figures – all of which are different enough in appearance to make them "fit together" better or worse on the table.

Additionally, it depends if I am having them "mix it up" in skirmish type combat or if there are massive units (36 figures each) maneuvering against each other in battles.

But since I sold the OP figures to someone "far away" it is a moot point.

Edit : I will skip how well they would match up with my 15mm dwarf armies…
