Ad Astra Games and Axanar Productions will bring the space battles of the Four Years War to tabletop gaming with Squadron Strike: Axanar! Using the critically acclaimed Squadron Strike game engine, Squadron Strike: Axanar will show the arms race between the Klingon Empire and the United Federation of Planets in unprecedented detail. The product will be available in both PDF and print formats, and will include the canonical class histories for all the ships in the film. Additional products include a line of fleet scale miniatures. Ad Astra Games makes engaging 3D tabletop miniatures games, and has multiple licenses using its Squadron Strike game system. Ad Astra has recently completed a Kickstarter for electronic game aids for Squadron Strike. Squadron Strike: Axanar supports 2D and 3D play, and is in closed playtesting now. If you already own Squadron Strike and want to get in on the second phase playtesting, please contact Ken Burnside (design@adastragames.com) for details. Squadron Strike can be purchased directly from Ad Astra Games website. Squadron Strike: Axanar will be available on the Axanar website as a perk for donating to the production. To find out more about Axanar Productions, watch Prelude to Axanar on Youtube, and visit their website at axanarproductions.com We expect public playtesting to begin around June 15th, possibly sooner. Playtesting will require signing a Non-Disclosure Agreement. |

Please tell me that "fleet scale" will be 1/7000. I'm fascinated to see how this is being pushed past the IP lawyers though. Axanar being such a high profile project, I'd assume the franchise owners are watching carefully to ensure no one steps over the line, and that the Axanar people and Ad Astra are taking extreme care to stay on the right side of that line. |

To be brutally honest, if the game is not in Starline 2500 scale, I'll probably give it a pass. Damon. |

This looks very good indeed and I couldn't care less as to scale ! |
AdAstraGames | 05 May 2015 3:00 p.m. PST |
Fleet scale will not be Starline 2500 scale, or Starline 2400 scale. Starline 2400 is about 1:3788 Starline 2500 is larger than that, but I don't recall the specifics. Fleet scale for me means somewhere close to 1:7000 or 1:7200 (which is what our Traveller minis are at.) Studio Bergstrom has the license for the larger minis for Axanar. |

In case it's not clear: The Squadron Strike supplement comes with cardboard box miniatures, which work just fine for 3D orientation and look good in 2D play. The miniatures are a separate product line, and the scale will depend on the detail of the materials given by the Axanar production team. They will be smaller than Starline 2500/2400. Studio Bergstrom has the license to do the larger minis that you'll want. Note that to get the minis, or the supplement, you'll need to be a backer for the Axanar Kickstarter. Here's a box miniature from Attack Vector: Tactical in action:
And the box miniatures that come with the standard Squadron Strike set:
Apologies for the lighting on those. They're making the art look very muddy. |

I like the idea of smaller miniatures; they might fit in with the Trek fleets for Full Thrust that I am assembling. Starline 2500 scale is 1/3125 I believe, though 1/3200 has been tossed around as well. Some of my larger Trek ships are around 1/6200-6500 and having ships in or near 1/7000 would be helpful to be sure. |

Bill, which ships are 1:6200-1:6500? To me, the larger end of fleet scale is 1:6400… |

Ken, think I'll have to pick up both PDF and hardcopy. Need the box minis, and nice to be able to print off the SSDs! -Tim |

Ken, I am using some Furuta Galaxy Class, Nebula class, both of which I am told are in that scale range. I had to get some Shapeways ships made up since miniatures that fit in with that size range were not easy to find. The baseline was supposed to be a 4" Furuta Galaxy class, and I scaled the rest of the fleet from there as best I could – there are definitely some models that aren't all that close to the "proper size", but I did the best I could. |

If I can use my FASA Minis then I'm in and since I donated to both of the Axanar Kickstarters I'm looking forward to it. |

Ok… I do hope this is happening, because Axanar is one of the most exciting things to happen in Trek fandom in quite a while. But – can someone at AdAstra explain just how they intend to sell this game, given this statement from the FAQ on the Axanar website: " Is Axanar licensed by CBS/Paramount? No, Axanar is an independent project that uses the intellectual property of CBS under the provision that Axanar is totally non-commercial. That means we can never charge for anything featuring their marks or intellectual property and we will never sell the movie, DVD/Blu-ray copies, T-shirts, or anything which uses CBS owned marks or intellectual property." Considering that CBS lawyers jump up and down on people making Trek-inspired miniatures on Shapeways, let alone selling them as part of a real business, how are you getting around this issue? Surely Axanar Productions cannot issue licences, given their statement? |

The long story made short: So long as the Axanar-related product is exclusively available as a backer reward for the Kickstarter, both Ad Astra Games and Studio Bergstrom are considered vendors. EG, you have to go through the Axanar Kickstarter to get the product & minis when they come out, and Axanar buys them from us to meet the Kickstarter backer needs. |

Any thoughts as to when the miniatures will be added to the Kickstarter? I did not see any mention of them on there, so far. |
AdAstraGames | 07 May 2015 11:38 a.m. PST |
Bill, I'm still waiting on the 3D modeling files to arrive to start getting quotes done up. They won't put them up as backer rewards until I'm well into the production process. (Pretty much I'll be asking them to put them up about the time I go from getting investment casting done to production molds.) |

So… are the ST attack wing minis are to scale with 1/7000 and with these minis? |
emckinney | 22 May 2015 10:10 a.m. PST |
The ST Attack Wing minis have no consistent scale. |
Lion in the Stars | 22 May 2015 6:35 p.m. PST |
The ST Attack Wing minis have no consistent scale. Which is highly unfortunate. |

.obj files were turned over to us late last night. We haven't had time to do more than go "Oooooooooooooooooooh." And sigh that most of that detail won't make it to metal. (They did these for film, not minis casting – we're doing the mods needed for that last step.) |
