The Board decided it was a better idea to only have one Website, in this case the new YM site, so it will now permanently replace the hmgs.org and all convention sites.

Going to hmgs.org will auto activate a redirect command and take you to the new YM site.

As Webmaster this was no big deal, as its about time this Old Guardsman step aside for younger folks with new and fresh ideas. Besides, I've been an HMGS (East) officer of some sort for 25 years. Here we are talking Board, Membership, Secretary, Newsletter Editor, National Rep, Legion Adjutant and for all 25 years, Webmaster.

I'm tired and just want to spend the rest of my days painting toy soldiers. To me this decision has come just at the right time.

Email me direct if you have any questions.

Ciao, Colonel Bill

No, it doesn't take you anywhere….at least not for me.

First and foremost, thank you for your years of service to HMGS in particular and the hobby in general, Colonel Bill. Have fun painting. I look forward to watching your future games at HMGS conventions. I hope you have something planned for Historicon.

Secondly, if you click on the HMGS link above, it should take you to the "new" YM HMGS site. So that much works.

However, my concern is that much of the information on the "old" HMGS site is now either impossible to access or permanently "lost" to members and non-members. For example, all the links to regional gaming clubs and points of contact are now unavailable (as far as I can tell) on the YM site. Not exactly my idea of "supporting the hobby." If I'm wrong, and I hope I am, I look forward to someone correcting me.

Yes, I know that the YM site has a listing of "clubs" but that appears to be the same list that was available during GM registration for Historicon. That list is far smaller than the state by state list of clubs that was on the old HMGS site.

I'm sure other old material is less available, such as past BOD minutes. Others may comment on what other HMGS information is now harder to find.

Finally, the timing of this move also strikes me as curious. HMGS (East) is in the middle of perhaps the most hotly contested election in its history. The current BOD's decision to, in effect, delete all the past information on the old web site at this time just seems strange. I appreciate their desire to get everyone on the same page, namely the YM site, but the old web site wasn't hurting anyone (or so I thought) and was a valuable resource for many. Just pulling it less than two months before a new BOD takes over, without notice or consultation to the membership, is strange, to say the least.

Just one more decision for the new BOD to review in two months.

We'll see.

Bill,

Thanks for all your work with HMGS. I hope you have lots of well-deserved fun painting the troops.

Works for me. The new site looks great. I regret that the time I lived in Fredericksburg I was dormant in this hobby and that I now live on the west coast.

Bill, I guess I'm one of those younger folks you hope will step forward. Thank you for laying such a strong foundation for us to build upon.

I just tried to get to the new site and it's painfully slow. All other sites load just fine for me. Could there be an issue with a server or the ISP?

Good news:

Although clicking on the old hmgs.org link will take you to the new YM site, you can still find all the old web site information (including the club lists) when you do a search for HMGS.

More good news:

The Historicon PEL is on line, along with the list of Tournament games. To find the PEL, follow the links on the YM site to Historicon.

Enjoy the games.
