I loved the books, and hope they do not screw this up. If I have to see another Saxon in a 16th century Cavalry helmet I will cry. Yeah, I am looking at you Vikings…. Also, calling it Game of Thrones Slayer might be a bit much. GoT is HBO's number one series of all times, rivaling the Sopranos etc. I think trying to make a new show compare to the biggest show on HBO might be setting up for disappointment. But The Last Kingdom, if done right, could be fantastic. I will keep my fingers crossed! |

"The series is instead a historically rooted drama about the ninth-century wars between the Anglo-Saxons and Viking invaders." With pieces of Renaissance plate. Oh, my, heck. The only thing "ninth century" about that pic are the rocks…. |

Sounds like it might be pretty good. There is some really good television on these days. |

Based on that photo, I have very little hope for this…. Shame. |

If you are talking about the photo in the link, that is from Game of Thrones, nothing to do with The Last Kingdom. There is a teaser trailer for The Last Kingdom, and I have a little more hope than I did: YouTube link |

Nice trailer. Almost 2 seconds of armed soldiers without any lapsus in sight (at least none that I could notice). Thats around 2 seconds more then most other movies manage. Though I am sure that I never heard of a shieldwall stacked up three shields :-) |

Good looking shield wall there indeed. |

Oh, I see, make an article about a TV program, and show a pic from a different program. That was a smart move alright…. |

I kinda wish it was The Winter King but good news none the less |

I hope they don't screw this up. I really enjoyed these books. |

Oh I see! I've not seen Game Of Thrones so didn't recognise the photo! As Great War Ace said, the BBC marketing department are obviously geniuses of the highest order… |

The Independent is a newspaper unaffiliated with the BBC, judging from the tone of the article I can well imagine it took the BBC staff a full hour to convince the journalist that the show actually isn't a Game of Thrones spinoff.. |

I have seen GoT seasons 1-3 and a bit of 4, and read the first 3 of Cornwell's Saxon Tales. I will watch this show as well, but I doubt it will dethrone GoT. The reason GoT works is because there is a no-holds-barred attitude for killing off characters and therefore nothing it out of the question. Unless they drastically change what happens in the books, SC will not be that way. Nonetheless, I am excited. |
