The thing that is lost in the scene, and only just showing at the end, is the severing of the line to the boat with the extra fuel. All you see in the movie is a brief shot of it falling behind with no dialogue like 'Damn, how will we reach Cairo, now? Guess we'll have to stop at some 'friendly' village and buy some extra fuel.' |

I saw the movie as a kid and my dad explained the connection to the extra fuel and the body parts in El Mahdi's big jar in the later scene. So he got the connection, but I missed it. |

That looked like a Nordenfelt to me, actually. Gardeners used a rotary crank, and these were using a forward and back motion. |

I scratchbuilt a model of the Abbas from the movie in 15mm. It had a brief appearance and it was hard to get decent views, so I had to guess in some places: wfhgs.com/gunboat3.html |
