Well, just a single ship, really …

1) I'll be using it for only a handful to a dozen 15mm figures, so it'll obviously have to be scaled down and the proportions not so stretched out;
2) I would prefer access to the interior*, if possible;
3) I would like the ship to be no bigger than 8-10 inches; and
4) Alien-like exterior/interior, meaning exotic, almost hive-like and no sharp corners

Should I begin with the interior* first, and then the outside? I want it to have an "organic" feel on the inside as well.

Start with a sketch of the outside, then build the inside, then add on bits to get your outside (those bits could be expanding foam or something that you then carve into the appropriate shape, of course).

Or, if going for an "organic" look, y0ou could spray a big glob of foam down, wit for it to dry, then slice the top off and carve out the inside into rooms, then decorate with appropriate greebles and paint.

Both should work, but the approach should be based upon where you want the action to take place (inside the ship or outside the ship). Or based upon what tools and skills you have.

Remember this other one from "Dreamcatcher" 2003?

I still like the shape of the one in "Man of Steel" much better.

Now, if I could figure out how to make one a tenth that size or smaller …

Looks like it would be pretty difficult to get right, unless you use some nice, soft, sculpting material, like super-sculpey, or clay.

If I were going to do that, I'd make a solid model of the exterior, and then perhaps a separate model of the interior.

That way, you don't have to worry about a liftoff roof, etc., given how complex the overall shape is.

Probably difficult to make out of cardboard, or styrene sheeting.

You might be able to make it out of bluefoam, or other similar styrofoam material, especially if you can find a suitable putty-like material that hardens well, but that can be sculpted like clay, or putty, initially, to permit you to get the final surface texture right.

Yes mako, BLUEFOAM. exterior only though.

Won't be easy no matter which way you go. I'd charge 200 bucks to make that exact model in the pic and it still would not be a profitable endeavor.

Go on Ebay, but the AMT "Kazon Torpedo" platsic model, which looks cool and can have a nice inetrior with plenty of room for 15mms. Trust me.
