Would anyone have a lead on where I could find a sci-fi torpedo model for use in a space combat game? I'd be looking for something around the 15mm or so size but all suggestions are welcome. I'd prefer a 3d model not a counter or cut out. Something similar to this but with a better look.
Thank you in advance.

Check some of the modern air combat miniatures games for some ideas. I've seen some neat looking missile counters made from pipe cleaners.
I have a 5 lb bag of flechettes that I was planning to paint and use for miniature missile counters.

I use Shapeways for my Battlefleet Gothic torpedoes and fighters, see in pics here: link link Search Shapeways and you'll find a range of torpedoes in different scales. |

Pipe cleaner missile markers are pretty easy to make--just dip the end in some latex paint and twist it around. Also GHQ makes an armament pack for modern aircraft in 1/285 with missiles and bombs that could be converted for sci-fi use. |

I was looking at boxes of 1/72 aircraft weapons for a number of projects, but the Sidewinders never suggested uses. I think the front ends might be similar to your picture, but I'm really starting to NOT want fins. After that, just about anything 'tube' with a small vapor trail would seem to do. Really, after recycling trash, I think those boxes are offering the most exciting possibilities, for VSF, retro and not-so-retro space ships. Doug |

I have used Christmas card pegs . A packet normally contains about 200 pegs green and red. Very cheap too 99p in the UK |

You don't really need fins on missiles in space. A simple cylinder, pointed or not should do. Make them from plastic model kit sprue or plastic rod. |

I always have to chuckle to myself about how all the available minis and artwork regarding starship combat show missiles and torpedoes as having tapered noses and fins. Since there is no air out there, a missile might as well just be a featureless cube. They'd certainly be easier to store inside the ship that way. |

BFG used to sell blister packs of them (got one) but good luck finding them now. Someone once suggested using round toothpicks cut short. Mount em on a flat headed pin for a stand and glue to your base. |

"I always have to chuckle to myself about how all the available minis and artwork regarding starship combat show missiles and torpedoes as having tapered noses and fins. But a cube shaped missile would be pretty inaccurate if it's shot into or through an atmosphere, wouldn't it?? |

into or through an atmosphere, wouldn't it?? Not so much for a hyper round, but mainly, we're vaccheads. Atmospheres are the apple peel of a single fruit, on the fifty yard line of a super stadium. Not much worry about it if the scrimmage is all over the field. Unless you're worried about use for ortillery. Not us; we're fly guys. ;->= Doug Edit: You have no idea how difficult it was to hold back the 'Space is big. Really big. You just won't believe how…' |

The one at the top is an untouched stylus. |

I used Hasegawa 1/48th scale aircraft missile sets (well one of them) for the Sting Missiles in Stingray. Jut used the front section of various sidewinders. Worked out about a centimetre long. John T |

That's what I'll use 'em for! Well, 1/72; I've plans for most of the rest of the weapons in the acc'y kits, but the Sidewinders, save for the aft fins for some dig's, just wasn't saying ANYTHING! Doug |
