So I'm looking into getting some planes for my 20SCW stuff. Wondering if people tend to use the 1/72 or go for the smaller 1/100? |

1/72 and they aren't exactly easy to get hold of… |

1/144. I build what I need, generally. |

I'd say 1/72nd. That's what I use for other games with 20mm/1/72nd scale figures. Are they (SCW era) really so hard to find?
Might be a bit out of date but : link |

I know there is a Dragon Rapide and IL-16 as diecast models out now. I also have an older Il-16 diecast from someone or other that fits in nicely with 1/72. |

While I don't play SCW I use 1/72nd scale planes for WWI and WWII. I would think that SCW planes would be out there, but might be expensive or not carried at every store. Still most of the Soviet and Legion Condor aircraft should be pretty easy to find. Mike Bunkermeister Creek Bunker Talk blog |

I go with sub scale planes in all scales. They just look better as planes are huge compared to troops and vehicles. We use 1/144 or 1/100 with 20mm stuff. I use 6mm planes with 15mm. |

The aircraft I'm used to field are always downscaled with regard to ground forces. I.e., if gaming 20mm SCW, then my planes are 1/100. For gaming 15mm WWII, aircraft are 1/144. Not any thoughtful reason behind, though. Just a matter of taste: matching scale aircraft look too big to me. Lluís |

Plenty of 1/72 Cr32's out there , the newish diecasts are quite good . auction auction Add a 1/72 Breda BA65 and you will be laughing . The Azur plastic kit though OOP and hard to find is a joy to build . |

I think most gamers find this preferable. I'm actually the opposite. I'm more inclined to use 1:144 with 6mm for example. I suppose it depends on whether one looks down on the table or across it. And, of course, larger aircraft just absurdly dominate the table if in the same scale. Fighters and the smaller support aircraft don't bother me. |

1/72 scale aircraft are indeed out there, including the Nieuport Delage fighter, the Savoia-Marchetti SM81, the CR32, the Polikarpov I-15 and I-16, and other mischief. It's such a colorful period, I kinda can't imagine why anyone doesn't play the period, especially with Miniarons and Irregular Miniatures offering between them the Cadillac quality and the cheap and cheerful that insanely enough blend together brilliantly and let one build up some impressive forces for this fascinating period. It is a tempting war to game – has everything I like : clunky tanks, clunky planes, clunky armoured cars (really, really clunky – and so beautiful in 20mm!). I just have so many other half finished projects. Having said that I bought A World In Flame a while ago, and I must have done that for a reason…. |

Actually, the more I think about this – I probably have most of the vehicles and planes I'd need already in the cupboard of unmade and unloved kits – so it'd just be a case of getting some infantry & cavalry & guns. Oh dear. |
