I would like to solicit suggestions for rules for Caesar's campaigns in 28mm. I would like to replicate the tactics of a legion and its cohorts. I kind of like Tactica and some of the ideas of it but I don't have it. I am also open to any other ideas. I don't plan on huge games, I would be happy to put together one legion of 10 cohorts etc. |

With 10 cohorts you could probably play Hail Caesar. I think that does a good job of replicating the supporting tactics of the legions. It kind of uses the pulse idea for the barbarian attacks too, so a group goes out to fight supported by others and then retreats or wins, when another group might go out. |

In blowing-own-trumpet mode, my "To the Strongest!" rules were originally designed for Romans vs. sundry barbarians, with a dozen units a side upwards, and have been extensively tested for the period. Here's a snap of Thapsus (from behind the Pompeian lines):

1 Legion? Maybe WRG. You can get 5th edition for free online. 6th can be had from John Curry Events. While I have yet to play it, To the Strongest would be another choice. It can probably do what you want though everything it does is in the quick and simple way. My kind of game. YMMV. |
