"Declaring "history is harsh," Prime Minister Shinzo Abe of Japan offered solemn condolences Wednesday for the Americans who died in World War II as he became the first Japanese leader to address a joint meeting of Congress.

"My dear friends, on behalf of Japan and the Japanese people, I offer with profound respect my eternal condolences to the souls of all American people that were lost during World War II," said Abe, prompting lawmakers of both parties to stand and applaud…"

Now I think it's the Americans turn to apologize for nuking two cities full of innocent people. Can we see that happen?

The Japanese PM was appologizing for STARTING the war that caused those deaths. The A-bombs were far more humane than what a conventional invasion would have done to Japan, again remember they started the dance- we just played the last tune.

Warfare is always horrible both to Soldiers and civilians. If you enter a war you should count the cost, regardless if you start it or not.

Likewise the USA presented the idea to Japan that we appologize and they rejected it.

A heretofore secret cable dated Sept. 3, 2009, was recently released by WikiLeaks. Sent to Secretary of State Clinton, it reported Japan's Vice Foreign Minister Mitoji Yabunaka telling U.S. Ambassador John Roos that "the idea of President Obama visiting Hiroshima to apologize for the atomic bombing during World War II is a 'nonstarter.'"

Many Japanese seem to understand what you do not, but you can learn.

Our nuking of military targets is not the moral equivalent of murdering millions of Chinese civilians for Bleeped text and giggles. When is Abe going to admit that Comfort Women were kidnapped sex slaves and rape victims?

I agree totally with COL Scott as well as Rebelyell. And yes, you need to do a bit more of your homework Griveton …

Did he apologise for starting the war?He seemed to be referring to the deaths and misery caused by the conflict.I am interested in what people see as the significance of an apology for a countries actions 70, 80, 500 years ago is for today. It doesn't change the historical fact or bring any comfort to the victims, especially when the person apologising had no personal involvement in the issue.
