I started collecting Heritage's line of 15mm ACW figures back in the late '70s. I have about 70 figures each of both Federal and Confederate, as well as 6 artillery pieces, and would like to add to them. The last I knew the molds were sitting in Texas somewhere, under a cloud of bankruptcy. Did anyone ever gain possession of those molds, and put them back in production? If so, under what name? If not, what other lines of figures would match up with the small size of the Heritage sculpts? They would have to be easily available in the US. OR………. should I forego trying to match up these figures and switch over to one of the 10mm lines? I have been looking at the GHQ offerings, and it seems like you could build some imposing forces quite economically. (And before anyone suggests going with 6mm, my 61 year old eyes and fingers will be sufficiently taxed with the 10mm size.)

Thanks, Don

(Wishing I had kept my Heritage Roman Legion and Carthaginians, as well as the Napoleonettes.)

I looked into re-creating my long-lost Heritage ACW about 15 years ago.

I wasted a lot of time and money on it.

Save yourself the grief, and order a bunch of Cracker Line or GHQ this afternoon. You will have painted 100 of them in the same amount of time that you will waste tracking down old Heritage stuff.

The figures are just plain better, and you can be painting THIS WEEK.

Don, The last known location of the ACW molds was with Iron Brigade in Oklahoma. The owners (who purchased this and the ancient 15's) widow was selling off the ranges last I heard (which was 5 years ago. Since I have not seen anyone flogging them, I'd try to check with her first. Ed Pugh at Reaper could probably tell you even more as he seems to be the most knowledgeable in the buisness who has kept track of these old molds and more.

Those were great sculpts by Stan Glazner! A great talent who's life ended way too early.

Tom – You are talking about the 25mm line. This gentleman is looking for the 15mm ACW line. Several years ago, I ran across a woman in Texas who was selling them but don't recall anything else about it. I'd do a search. Good luck.

I have to agree with Lucius here. Cracker Line is incredible. Not much smaller than the Confederettes, and much more dynamic and well proportioned. The artillery park is unbelievable. The cavalry look like the period combat artists' renditions.

Unless your 140 or so minis are very close to your end goal, I'd pass them on and reboot with 10mm.

I have a bunch of Heritage 15mm ACW Union. Some painted, some still in the blisters if you are interested.

The old 15mm Heritage ranges were unmatched for their time and still excellent today compared to modern sculpts. I have a bunch of the ACW and wish I had more.

Hi Don.

In September of 2011 I exchanged a couple emails with a lady called Pamala.
I found her on Facebook (Empire Miniatures). Her email was Pamela@empireminiatures.biz.
She was keen to communicate via the telephone but being in Canada I wanted to exchange email. I told her this and never heard from her again.

Hope this helps.

Michael in Cloverdale.

I also have a lot of old Heritage ACW (as well as WW2,
and a few Ancients) and wish they were back in production.
And most new figure lines that advertise 15mm are closer
to 20mm and don't match well. There are some old lines
still out that might match,

Or try Kallistra 12mm
kallistra.co.uk/?page=16

I haven't seen either line in person, but some have told
me that they should match.

Hope that this helps

The old Heritage 15mm figures (ACW and Napoleonic) were some of the best miniatures you could get at the time. Even today they are still good. However, there are two major issues:
1) The Heritage figures are true 15mm figures. And because of the scale creep phenomenon, it will be very difficult to find other miniatures to match the scale (true 15mm). In fact, I know of none at this time.
2) At this time it will be almost impossible to get the old molds out and have them spin off some figures for you. Your best bet is to find gamers that have some of these figures laying around to sell/give you. Also keep an eye on ebay. From time to time in the past, I use to see packs of Heritage figures pop up. But I haven't surfed ebay for over ten years now.

Thank you all for your answers, I truly appreciate the response. I'm glad to see I am not alone in my appreciation for the Heritage lines. It is indeed sad the a superior line of figures had to go out of production for really no good reason.

I was not optimistic when I posted this, so I was surprised to see Big Red's offer. My situation does not allow me to make large purchases at one time, but if you would like to PM me with your selection and prices, I will certainly consider it.

That said, I think I will investigate the 10mm avenue. I am going to be ordering some modern Micro-Armo(u)r from GHQ anyway, so I will pick up a pack of their ACW minis to see how I like them. (Must say I like the way the Cracker Line Figs are posed, as well.)

So while I seem to be leaning towards 10mm, I have not finalized any decisions, so please continue to add your suggestions/arguments to the discussion.

Thanks again, Don

One last tip, which is pretty obvious: I sometimes see 15mm ACW Heritage figures on Ebay included in bigger groups of 15mm ACW figures. If one occasionally searches for "15mm ACW" or "15mm Civil War", a guy can sometimes make a find.

Ultimately, I have to agree with what Lucius and others have said. At Millennium Con last November, I forced myself to walk away from some unpainted 25mm Minifigs "S" range French Napoleonic figures. Furthermore, there wasn't one group of these figures for sale, but two! I knew that if I bought them, it would be impossible to round out a collection of French and their opponents.

Reboot doc, it's the best way, I'm 90% done with my crimean war project, and am rebooting ACW with the stone mountain line, yes I can hear the chorus of "why" ,,,, Well dammit I like them, and the owner will cast specific molds to match the older regiment packs from the 80s and 90s. A fresh start I believe is the only way to go.

HobbyDr,

My eyes are far too old for the smaller scales so I have replaced all the units with 28mm.

If you are still interested please let me know your PM. I'm not looking to buy a new car so they would be priced to sell quickly.

Thanks,

Bill.

Bill, I see you are a supporting member, while I am not. Can you just click on my screen name and send me a message that way?

I just ordered a pack of GHQ Iron Brigade Firing, so I should know in about a week if they will be satisfactory.

Sorry Don, no. Don't worry about the Heritage figures. The GHQ figures are very nice!

John Leahy Sponsoring Member of TMP30 Apr 2015 7:00 p.m. PST

Throw me in the Heritage fan camp. I have a lot of the 25mm Heritage fantasy and 15mm Carthaginian and Republican Roman armies of their figs. Yeah, I love em! grin

Shagnasty Supporting Member of TMP30 Apr 2015 8:42 p.m. PST

I loved the old Heritage 15s. It was tragic both that the sculptor died so early and that the line was lost in the Heritage bankruptcy.

Buckeye AKA Darryl01 May 2015 5:11 a.m. PST

Pamela and I spoke via Facebook a few years ago. She had all the ranges available (15mm) IIRC. Her price was $9.95 USD per pack. Too steep for me at the time, but in hindsight I should have bought some items from her. I have hundreds of the Bleeped texts, more Federal than reb, but need things like horse teams and limbers/caissons, along with more rebs.

The Kallistra figures are very nice, and with the buy five packs get one free, become fairly economical.

And the Cracker Line range is ever growing, and look great!

MajorB01 May 2015 2:09 p.m. PST

Confederettes

Are they the ones in the grey uniforms and short skirts? grin

HobbyDr01 May 2015 5:15 p.m. PST

"Are they the ones in the grey uniforms and short skirts?"

Smile when you say that, mister.

HobbyDr05 May 2015 6:53 a.m. PST

I just got my order from GHQ (only took 3 days), and I'm thinking this is the way to go. The figures, Iron Brigade standing firing, are clean with almost no flash, or even mo(u)ld lines. I expect to block in the uniform basecoats, drybrush with some light gray or blue to expose what details are visible, then touch them up with my smallest brush. They should practically paint themselves. (Yeah, right.) They should even fit well on the geomorphic terrain boards I am planning for my Micro Armo(u)r.

I hope to post some pictures as I build my forces. Thanks again for all your comments.

Don
