Settings that were based on rules (possibly morphed into books later) – What were your top three influences that determine(d) your current Science Fiction games? 1) FGU's Space Marines (pre-GW) 2) Starguard 3) Stargrunt 2/Dirtside 2/Fullthrust |

Laserburn, Stargrunt, Rogue Trader. In reverse order, probably. |

I mix FASA Trek's Timeline with Starfleet Battles/Federation Commander. I've used Talislanta and Empire of the Petal Throne with Space 1889. |

Epic Armageddon by far. Oddly enough, I really didn't care much for the earlier versions of the game. |

40K DzC I use Infinity rules but not the back ground. |

(1) is hands down Warhammer 40.000 and it likely will influence our games until I stop gaming, if for no other reason than because we have so many 40k minis that regularly crop up on the tabletop. (2&3) are tied between Starslayer/Defiance and Infinity because their basic ideas of a "political" setting appeal to me. |

Epic Aramageddon, NetEpic, and some of the better rules from previous Epic versions. Plus Strike Legion, FWC and The Crucible are good also. And some should check out DRM's SEEDS OF WAR rules free on their website/catalogue. Of course most of these are all for 6mm … the only scale I do anymore. |

Traveler once upon a time but not so much now. Maybe Space 1889 simply because – before the rules came out – I hadn't considered gaming steam punk but I still do and tend to use the Chadwick background (with as much filler inserted by me as required to cover the enormous creaking gaps and inconsistencies). I tend to find that backgrounds in games are their least satisfying component. Good books are written by good authors. Good rules are written by good rules writers. They are rarely the same people so the backgrounds that appear in games is not something I seek out for inspiration. Oh, and nothing whatsoever from the 40k background. John T |

Oh, and nothing whatsoever from the 40k background. Yes, eventhough I was an Epic gamer. I dismiss very much of the 40K "fluff". It's as much fantasy as anything else … besides … "silly" ! |
