Has anyone painted or gamed with this line of 18mm figures from Blue Moon? I was thinking of trying African games using individually mounted 18mm figures instead of the normal 28mm. But I cannot recall having seen these figures painted, just bare metal on the OG website. Thoughts on them? Rules might be The Sword in Africa, Congo, or another skirmish game.

Does anyone else make good figures from Colonial Africa exploration?

Don't know about the figures, but the basic Sword in Africa rules would work well keeping the 25/28mm movement and ranges. We've done Boers vs British using TSATF and keeping the 25/28mm movement and ranges. It works fine.

We've also done a number of Darkest Africa games using 28mm figures and TSIA. Great games. Here are two different games that used the same title.

I have painted 3 of the 6 bags of tribesmen that I have,they make good stock for African tribes in the early explorations of the Portuguese,namely Irregular Wars. I bought a ton of them because I'd like to expand them out to a FOGR army. They are all javelins/spears,the only bow types available are the pygmys,who have blowguns as well.These basically qualify as 10mm figures.They were fairly easy to paint with some nice raised detail on the masks.

They are GREAT! I love them. Did most of the natives except the pigmies, and did the explorers and such. Beautiful!

A bit taller than my Old Glory and Peter Pig colonials, but not enough to matter!

FANTASTIC! And yes, the TSATF Darkest Africa supplement is MADE for this.

Part of my "Kanze" unit of my "Oombatu" Regiment in progress.

Don't let your favorite regiment get near them! These dudes WILL get all Ray Lewis on your ass!

There's a noticeable lack of variation and action in the native poses; you could convincingly base them in close order ranks and they'd look for all the world like ancients drilled regulars.

@Henry Martini,

I am looking for 15mm "West Sudanese" figures, but the lack of archers is a problem.

I'm looking at using these figures as some tribal warriors for my fantasy armies, a Dark Continent force or just a large native contingent for my Stygian Empire (evil fantasy Ancient Persians) army….

I think there might be something suitable in the Irregular catalogue, timurilank.
