I bought several of the last item and painted them: they are spot on for 15mm (1/100th) link
This fire truck's a corker too:

I guess it's not a coincidence that the airport truck looks like a certain marine APC :) Good finds! |

Great finds. I always check out the Walmart when I go. lately, there have been very few Matchbox vehicles. Tons of the flashy Hotwheels, but few MB. Anyone else experience this? |

Maybe something to do with the shipping problems on the west coast? |
ordinarybass | 28 Apr 2015 8:16 a.m. PST |
Great suggestions. I've got a small box of matchbox vehicles that I have picked up to use in 10mm games. There's a surprising number of vehicles that are spot-on for 10mm, including a few of the ones pictured above. |

The top two are on my cross hairs but I haven't seen them anywhere in Houston yet. They are 2015 releases. The "dump" truck is a mining vehicle, hence its low profile. I just ran an offsite errand and stopped at TRU but no luck. |

My WalMart has had a dearth of MB for awhile. Probably dont sell as well as they dont generally look as goofy as the HotWheels. |

I generally check Wal-Mart, Walgreens, CVS, and Target when I go looking. |

Great finds and very nice work on the paint jobs. I'm going to start checking the local stores for some to add to my collection. |

I've been thinking about making anti-grav drives to replace the wheels on MB/HW cars to let them be converted for sci-fi use. Would those be useful to anybody? |

Very, Javelin98. Very much so :) |

I always check the 'toy' section for gaming ideas for the very reason you guys do. But it is important to adopt the quite distinctive posture and facial expressions that clearly indicate that; "I am a grown, sensible adult, clearly here looking for a gift for one of my children or the child of a friend. Clearly this is not for me." I was "outed' last week by my 12 year old daughter – a new Toys'R'Us opened up and we were passing. I dragged her in. She stated quite clearly that it was "Rubbish" and didn't play with "dolls" any more. I insisted we have a look anyway. She quizzed me further… "What are you looking for?" I had to be honest – "I'm looking for a US style school bus that I can convert for a post-apocalyptic game setting…" Luckily total embarrassment was averted as I then appeared "adult" again as I had to explain what "post-apocalyptic" meant, he he. No bus though! It was rubbish. |

@ John Treadway… Who makes the infantry in your photos? Really like your basing approach and paint jobs! |
javelin98 | 29 Apr 2015 11:29 a.m. PST |
As an aside, does anyone know of a place where you can buy multiples of MB/HW cars? I'd love to get five or six of those airport crash trucks, but I can never seem to find them on the shelves. |

Ahem. Matchbox also makes a Stryker 8x8 AFV that is easily modified for nefarious 15mm purposes:
Yes, it's a beast, but it makes a fetching heavy wheeled fire support/heavy tank destroyer with little or no modification….

Who makes the infantry in your photos? Really like your basing approach and paint jobs! Very kind! The figures are GZG – some of their recent Tomorrows War DRPG, if I recall link They have customised shoulder launched ATGWs (alluminium tube) as I did them before the actual anti-tank figures were available. They are spray primed with Army Painter Sand primer and then detailed with more AP paints and then dipped in their varnish dip. Based on 2p coins with home made Basetex in dark brown with cork chip rocks and grass tufts added. Then spray matt varnished (Testors) and metals and glossy glass added with AP metallics and Tamiya coloured laquer. I did this piece on them (towards the latter part of the ten pages). link My work is designed – in this scale at least – to be as time efficient from bare lead to on-the-table as is possible! BTW – that's very slick work, Leland. Not the original wheels on the matchbox item I take it? John T |

NICE! Tractor Supply has a TON of vehicles in perfect 15mm and 28mm scales! neat stuff like dump trucks, construction vehicles, vans, farm vehicles (a damn harvester would do a number on zombies or bugs! :) )

John T, if you mean the Stryker, it comes with those ones… I have one of these, along with about a half dozen of the smaller "truck" type APCs, a few MRAPs, and a pair of Buffalo(?) mine-protected vehicles I use for 15mm |
BlackWidowPilot | 29 Apr 2015 10:15 p.m. PST |
John, thank you, and those are indeed the original wheels! The gun is from the Darkest Star 8x8 armored car kit shown in the photo, along with the extra turret bustles. All I did was superglue the wheels in place, replace the main gun with the fusion cannon and generator bustle from the DSG Scorpion 8x8 AFV, and repaint the whole thing with acrylic craft paints. Some spare 1940 French AFV decals, and my Legion Etranger demibrigade just gained some more armored support… Leland R. Erickson Metal Express metal-express.net |

Warmonkey, Found the Matchbox Mountain Mover and Runway Wrangler (called future dump truck and airport truck in your OP) at Target today. The Mover is an excellent general purpose dump that looks fairly sci-fi with it's low mining design. The Wrangler will make an excellent Armored Vehicle Recovery machine. A tank fits nicely on top. Very good additions to my collection of 10mm sci-fi civilian vehicles. Now I have to decide whether to leave them as is and dirty them up or repaint. Thanks again for the notice! |
War Monkey | 02 May 2015 8:31 p.m. PST |
Glad you were able to get a hold of them, I plan to use the dump truck as a mining vehicle on some far away colony, and the other as a space port service truck. |
