As part of the ongoing playtesting of WWI rule modifications for the BBB rules, we tried a Balkan Wars battle, Kirkkilise (1912). You can find a report on my blog here: bloodybigbattles.blogspot.co.uk And the full scenario is on Flickr, together with a couple of photos:

That is pretty darn cool and a very unusual period to game. |

Interesting, I am building the same battle for GWSH II. Shawn |

Great job Chris! Just one suggestion. Try incorporating pics in the blog posts. |

@DinOfBattle2: Thanks! Glad you like it! Yes, unusual, but (from this my first dabble in it) rewarding. I definitely plan to do some more Balkan War scenarios, as there are several other battles of similar size. @Konstantinos: I have tried but Blogger doesn't seem to like my photos – not sure if it's a format issue or what – plus my 6mm figures and terrain don't photograph that well and the games tend to look a bit samey, which is why I opt for posting more interesting images instead. But since you ask for more pics, I will try to add more pics. @Shawn: Good luck. How are you planning to do it? Will you have several scenarios from the battle, each focusing on a particular small but significant episode? I understand that in GWSH II a base is a company and a unit is a regiment. In my modified BBB version I'm using a scale about 15 to 20 times bigger, where a base is 3,000 men and a unit is usually a division. The BBB philosophy is to try to make entire battles fit on a tabletop and make them playable in an evening. With 300,000+ men involved, on a 60km front, over 3 days of battle, I imagine it would be hard to do at any smaller scale. I'd be interested to know how you intend to approach it. Chris |

Thanks Chris, I was planning on taking 3 or 4 important phases of the battle and putting them together as separate scenarios that have linked victory conditions for those who wish to play the full battle and possibly work the map so it can be put into full use, but I have just started :) Like the look of your game by the way :D Shawn |

Cheers, Shawn! Wish my games looked as good as yours … OK, I figured that multiple related scenarios must be what you had in mind, sounds like a sensible way to go. Chris |
