Interesting read here: link Basically it says that Washington's battle horse was a chesnut (bay) colored horse – Nelson, while the white (gray) charger was for parades only. Whew. Thanks goodness I put my Washington on a bay horse. |

I remember a news piece about the Battle of Monmouth Courthouse where two paintings show Washington, one on a bay horse and the other on a white horse. Now I know why! |

He got the white one out of storage just to chew Lee up. After that, it was back to the brown one. |

Puts me in mind of a series of juvenile historical novels I read as a boy. "I was Captain Kidd's Parrot", "I was Paul Revere's Horse", "I was Winston Churchill's Ferret". And such. Actually, wasn't the 2nd Continental Light Dragoons "Lady Washington's Horse"? If Martha Washington was washing George Washington's washing while Washington was on his way to Washington, how many 'w's are there in all? I'm associating rather freely tonight. It was a long day. And so to bed. |

I believe his white horse was named Blue Skin. |
