Some blood stained the hem of Rayley Lismer's cloak as he stepped over the cultist that had brought him the news of the failure of the rituals.

As the cultists came flooding back to the underground base Lismer could sense their fear emanating from them.

This would cause the collapse of his movement, something needed to be done.

picture

Taller by a head than any of his followers the Chaos Space marine sorcerer ducked as he moved through the tunnels. A nod of his head had brought his 20 most loyal followers trailing after him, picking up weapons as they moved.

Lismer needed to act quickly. And he knew just the target.

It was still dark when they came up through the sewers, the bulk of the Chaos Space Marine would not have permitted exiting through the man hole if the opening had not been widened to accommodate him. The widening had been done by Lismer's armoured fist.

picture

He emerged only two blocks from the Academy striding towards it. When he saw the last of his followers had made it to the surface he began to run.

He ordered one group to stay back and cover them as the rest of his men and him moved towards the bunker in front of the academy. The guards had been caught unawares, of course, but they were not sleeping. They quickly stood to and fired at the approaching cultists.

picture

One went down to that first burst of fire.

Then the cultists started firing back and quickly the bunker was rocked with projectiles, keeping the heads of the men down inside.

picture

Lismer used the opportunity to charge in.

picture

A gun was swung towards him, he caught it with his left and shattered the man wielding it with the power maul in his right.

Before the men following him had made it into the building resistance was at an end, Lismer barely broke his stride in slaughtering the White Stripes that opposed him.

Emerging from the other side of the building he left the cultists behind him and sprinted towards the door.

The lasgun fire from the White Stripes in front of him was ignored as it glanced off of his armour. Then he sensed a presence coming up behind him.

"Kupfer" thought the ancient devotee of Tzeentch, seconds before a bolt of searing plasma ripped a hole in his armour. He screamed in rage and pain but didn't slow in his advance on the men defending the front door of the Academy.

picture

His men had worked around the other side of the bunker and were now exchanging gun fire with the White Stripes right outside of the door.

picture

A small group of cultists broke cover and sprinted towards the defenders. The guards turned their fire on their attackers cutting down two of the cultists, but it was not enough, a stream of burning fuel poured over three of the Navy troopers. While their mouths formed inaudible screams because their lungs were too scorched to produce the air needed for sound, the last guard was shot by the two remaining cultists and slunk to the ground, winding up just as dead as his squad mates but in considerably less agony in getting there.

The cultists then opened up on the doors of the Academy themselves, slightly damaging them. Lismer arrived to smash through the portal but was assaulted by three White Stripes that had followed him down the street.

picture

As they threw themselves at him he turned and his power maul hit the first one in the chest, smashing the whole way through the man's body the power maul amputated the next man's leg below the knee. Striding forward Lismer caught the third guard in the stomach with a kick that shattered bones and organs alike within 9 inches of where the armoured toe connected with the man.

He then turned his attention to the door.

Screaming for him to stop Inquisitor Kupfer raced towards the ancient towering brute only to be caught in a hail of fire from the cultists. His storm troopers opened fire on the cultists cutting some of them down as Kupfer approached.

Kupfer lived but his charge had been stymied by his injuries and the shock of the firepower brought to bear on him.

He focused his attention back on Lismer just to see the behemoth smash down the doors of the Academy and step inside.

picture

Kupfer could hear the screams inside as the young, untrained psykers inside were almost instantly twisted by the sorcerers psychic emanations.

Kupfer knew that the corruption, now started, would not be stopped with the forces he had at hand.

picture

His storm troopers laid down a covering fire at the cultists who, happy to see their enemy disengaging, charged towards the Academy to do some corrupting of their own.
