I find rectangles serve for now to optimize playing space--don't need very much depth per area. And I've been informed that offset rectangles replicate the mechanics of a hex pattern (although I suppose offset squares would, too). It's a homegrown rules system, derived from a DTP game I designed. In the future, I plan to tinker with different patterns and eventually try some irregular ones (something like the pattern of terrain as seen from high altitude). Ed |
