I'd like to play some superhero skirmish games with my 9 year old son using cheap heroclix figs. Can anyone make a recommendation between heroclix and power legion rules? Being able to start simple and later add more complexity would be especially nice.

I've been playing Heroclix since the beginning at I can't recommend them anymore. The game is completely out of hand. I don't know anything about Power Legion, but it can't be worse than Heroclix.

I've not played heroclix, but I think Power Legion would be a good choice. The level of complexity is fairly low and becomes more complex as you layer on the special rules. You could keep it pretty simple with simple stats for your hero. I've enjoyed the two times I've played it.

However, if you're not trying to keep up with the current game, sticking with the earlier rules and figures for heroclix would probably be even simpler.

Never played Power Legion but when my son was younger we would play heroclix but not use all the power stuff. We would just use the numbers on the dial for offense and defense, movement ect. It worked well and he loved playing it and as he got older we added all the other rules and powers.

Cool, Power Legion is out! (I missed the announcement) Thanks for letting me know, I just snagged the pdf.

It looks simple enough, and much better for solo play that SuperSystem. No idea how it compares to Heroclix (I throw the clix cards and printed material away and just keep the figures).
