I am starting work on an Italian Wars project and am having a hard time picking between the Artizan and Foundry Landsknechts (by Foundry I mean the Perry Landsknechts.) Any thoughts?

Why not both?
I will not presume to tell you whether or not they are "compatible" (whatever that means). That's for you to decide.
But if you like both, why not get both?
If they don't match put them in separate units.

What other figure ranges are you planning to use?

I have painted up both and would have to go with the Foundry ones. The Artizan ones are definitely a bit more "cartoonish" in style where as some of the Perry sculpted ones look like they have stepped out an early 16th century woodcut!

The Pro Gloria pike(now sold by Warlord) mix really well with the Foundry figures, I am not so keen on their Arquebusiers though.

Old Glory are another option and capture the rakish appearance of Landsknechts particularly well but they are not as nice as the Foundry ones, and I feel some of the outfits may be slightly anachronistic. I prefer the Old Glory figures to Artizan, especially their arquebusiers compared to the Artizan ones.

I have mixed all of the above in units before.

Try a mix, I have separate units of Foundry, Artizan, Old Glory and just painting some Warlord, ready for Exeter next weekend. I even have some Redoubt sprinkled amongst the others,

I use Foundry and Pro Gloria together, they work well.

Avoid the ones with pikes parallel to the ground, they make a mess of your battle lines when you get into contact.

I am also having Artizan lansknecht painted for a slightly later period army.

I know, but you can never have enough lansknecht.

Wasn't it Will Shakespeare of Sir Francis Drake that said that first?

Pikes upright can be rather dangerous! One solution is:

Thanks everyone for your assistance. Yes it had occurred to me that I could use both Artizan and Foundry figures but I wanted to start with one type (as my funds aren't unlimited.)

Griefbringer for the Italian Wars probably use TAG for other troop types and either Foundry or Eureka for the Gendarmes.

Eureka Gendarmes are probably the best sculpts out there, but they suffer from being more on the small side. Not usable with others in the same unit.

Foundry Gendarmes are wonderfull, but only have one type of armoured horse. They can be placed upon Perry plastic barded horses, though, and you can probably get WOTR barded horses from Foundry.

As to Landsknechts – I think the old Perry Foundry are the best available option. If you want to concentrate on one manufacturer, that would be my choice. Pro Gloria also has nice sculpts, and they do mix pretty well, as do Perry and TAG. Artizans are a bit larger, though still mixable within a unit, but an Artizan will be one of the tall and bulky ones…
