Hi I just purchased the Studio Tomahawk's British Wilderness Force and I have noticed a discrepancy between the miniatures and the rules. The rules state the number of Rangers can be between 4 to 8 figures. Yet there are 16 ranger figures in the set. Eight figures are supposed to be armed with rifles and eight are supposed to be armed with muskets. But the box lists 10 rangers with muskets, six rangers with rifles and six indians in the decription. How do I tell the rangers apart? Thanks. |

I presume you are talkng about the "Muskets & Tomahawks" rules? The rules state the number of Rangers can be between 4 to 8 figures. Yet there are 16 ranger figures in the set. Actually the rules state 6-8 figures (p.42) but that is the number of figures PER UNIT. So in your force you have enough figures to make two 8-man units. Eight figures are supposed to be armed with rifles and eight are supposed to be armed with muskets. Don't know where you get that from? |

Historically, it would be rare to have a 1:1 ratio for muskets and rifles. The norm was for 2-3 (sometimes more) musket-and-bayonet men to accompany each riflemen, in order to cover them because of the extra time it took to re-load a rifle compared with a musket. |

I was under the impression that the vast majority of the FIW ranger carried a second pattern Bess. You can load it three times in the time it took you to load a rifle. And in the woods, deep woods, a long range would not be that useful anyway. |
