Wondering if anybody is playing this system in miniature? I have found a few threads from years back about those using 54mm. The links appear dead at this time. I have just started using 28mm foot and 1:72 armor and guns on a Hotz Matt using 5" hexes. For now I use single foot figures as are in the boxed game. Once I get enough done up for 8 units per side I will double them to a 2:1 ratio. For vehicles I use a marker to show how many hits it has taken. I really am enjoying this romp back into WWII and I find the card system perfect for solo play. Anybody else? |

Memoir 44 IS a miniatures game, so there should be no trouble converting the 2D hex maps to 3D hex-based tabletop terrain. No modifications to the rules would be needed. |

I thoroughly enjoyed playing Memoir and we have discussed on numerous occasions doing the game with 'proper' miniatures on a Hotz 5 inch mat. Haven't done it yet, mind you… John T |

I finally got my project off the ground over the weekend and did two solo games of the Southern France scenario. I was constantly finding things I wanted to change or add but left well enough alone and it was fun. my one change that I did was to not allow the grenade to count as a kill except against artillery. i prefer a slightly longer game. I play AWI using the Napoleonic set and 40mm figures on the same matt so am quite familiar with io over all. |

Yes, have run it using microarmor where a stand of infantry or a vehicle is removed for each hit. The scenario editor is a very useful tool for DIY scenario design link |

I play it on Kallistra Hexon using 15mm stuff. Just keep track of hits. This is a scenario from the Memoir 44 Normandy Campaign supplement link I have lightly modded it to reduce weapon lethality (grenades only hit in close combat, plus various optional rules from the supplements) and I use the recce card mod from the Memoir 82 variant which speeds things up a bit. |

Not tried it yet as the game is great out of the box and quick to set up.This thread as set the mind going and DColtman has a cool idea with the micro armour option. Can anyone recommend a good source for the models that would best match game contents? |

For my microarmour I use any combination of models – so an armor unit could have 2 shermans and a firefly or a combination of halftracks and tanks. Infantry units could be MG stands, infantry stands, softskins, etc, and artillery could be a gun and it's prime mover. You could do a lot of the scenarios with one of the GHQ combat commands for each side. link |

One of those dead links is probably mine… old blog site. I played for quite a while in 54mm…it was a great way to play against non-wargame friends. I haven't played it in a while as I have been working on my 3mm moderns. I think I got a little burned out when I did up a number of paper tanks for a big battle scenario. It was really epic fun…however at this point, if I revisit it I may go with a slightly smaller scale. The 54mm was very real estate intensive. |

The Heat of Battle convention at the National World War II Museum in New Orleans usually draws at least two guys who run Memoir 44 with miniatures and 3-d terrain. I've played several times and it's great fun. LT |

Hoping to play a game of Memoir 44 relatively soon, using the actual product to learn the rules. Suspect I'd like the visual appeal of using larger scale miniatures, terrain, and hexes than what is provided with the board game. |

Memoir 44 is one of Richard Borg's series of games running under the same mechanics. The Ancient version (Commands and Colors Ancient) is a block game in its format as sold but was developed in a miniatures format supposedly. So the games gets played by some in that format with big tables and figures and no rule changes at demos, so doing it with Memoir 44 is trivial. If you want to learn the Memoir 44 rules then grab the online version – doesn't cost anything to play the basics (costs to start getting into higher end maps and extra toys though) but the basic rules can be learned online. |

No pics yet but I have painted up enough single 28mm Americans and German's to do a Mem. 44 game. It was the scenario out of the basic game book in Southern France. Mercalair or something like that. I chose it because it had elite infantry which were really armored infantry in half tracks. The German's had 3 such units plus 5-6 other infantry each at 3 figure strength. I took those to be VG troops. They also had 4 tanks and a gun. The Americans had 10 infantry, 2 tanks and a gun. Figures are single based and I am using a Hotz Matt with 5" hexes. A most enjoyable game. I have decided the scale for me will be Regimental, meaning a maneuver unit is a company. Support weapons are only portrayed at Regimental or Divisional level. Pics soon I promise. |

Note – Silver coins are German unit hits and green markers are American unit hits.
Note – I used the N. Werfer Halftrack as mobile artillery for the game.
Note – haven't painted the vehicles yet.
Note – the cocktail swords are sector markers. |

Wish I could do it in 15's but just to small for me now. Games Poet and I played an enjoyable game which the pictures came from. What is the recon rule? I am using some rules from the Bulge booklet and don't use grenades unless the target is a gun which has no symbol. |

Could you explain the recon rules to me? |

Very nice set up Greenknight. I play a kind of hybrid version, using 15mm models on the game boards. I really enjoy Memoir and am just about to start a blog dedicated to playing through the scenarios! So here is my interpretation of memoir 44, stands/tanks etc are only removed on the final hit. We have a few 'adaptions' such as for example only infantry with dedicated AT weapons can damage tanks at range, and heavier tanks take more hits to destroy, move slower but shoot longer range. Currently experimenting with armour penetration roll when a tank is hit by another tank, could be as simple as re throwing a 'tank' symbol to blow it up, again all in the spirit of a fun game! For the scenarios I'll stick with standard rules. It's a great game if you enjoy the fun element, but there is much more depth to playing this game than first appears. Cheers, Lee.
