As I said I would, here is a selection of Salute 2015 Stngray pictures – mostly mine and my wife Fi's.

werelords.com/stingray20151.htm

A Gallant crew

Hopefully someone will let me have some more and I can add those to the site as well:were were a bit pushed to take many snaps: it was a full on day!

The first couple of pages are painting toys and practice games before the day, some of which I have already shown. The second couple of pages werelords.com/stingray20153.htm are all the snaps we could take while umpiring furiously!

The Steering wheels and hats

Seven games in seven hours was quite a whirlwind (and certainly my best in terms of speed of a game, though our big countdown clock we bought for Captain Scarlet a couple of years ago helped) so a huge thank you is in order for those of you that both appreciated it before hand and enjoyed it on the day.

Thanks also go to those on the team (Brian, Pete, Kevin, Tim and Ivan – "yes I can build some Stingray Steering wheels" – Congreve) and to my late mother for the hats: the later items are 26 years old and were from the original incarnation of the game.

That looks excellent!!

Love the steering wheels grin

You ought to market and sell those – they're great!

Vespasian2827 Apr 2015 8:18 a.m. PST

Well done again John and crew. That first two pictures say it all – kids having fun. The third picture is big kids having fun!!

The hats and steering wheels are a nice touch.

Love the undersea terrain, and especially the Stingray subs and Terrorfish!

So, who won?

Every game except the last was timed with the big clock to 45 minutes (the last one was only 30 mins as t was the end of the day). We find having a big clock and continuous "STAND BY FOR ACTION" and bongo drums sporadically playing on the speakers gets the players hurry on big time!

So, of the seven games, as the objective was primarily to take out Titanica (requiring 12 hits to do so) the players managed it every time by the skin of their teeth though took losses in the process.

So – on that basis – the WASP players completed (just) on every game.

I think Ivan built the steering wheels carefully modeled on the originals:

picture

…based on a children's (almost indestructible) play car steering wheels, suitably hack-sawed up and painted, with the yellow caps added from Toilet Duck, as I believe.

Oh -and someone on the day asked where we got the other information for names of other ships. This was a handy illustration we found on line:

If you're looking for more pics, I think the SHED WARS blog had a couple:

Not sure off-hand, if they're ones you might already have or not…

John,

Good to speak with you on the day. Thanks for the links to the rules and cards – really appreciated.

John,

I think it turned out to be a great looking game. All the little touches really help to keep the players in the sprit of the show and have a lot of fun doing it.

You'll need to bring that game over to Historicon.

Or export it to Fall-In in November. I just bought 4 Matchbox Stingrays from Amazon.UK for under 27GBP ($39USD)
Finding Terror Fish for a reasonable price is going to be a big challenge.

John Treadaway28 Apr 2015 2:36 a.m. PST

Capncarp. Terror fish are fairly easy to find from matchbox, especially if you don't mind repainting.

Mathew – I'll ask the Warlords committee if they fancy paying expenses to Historicon :)

John: I'm in the US, and shipping from the UK is ghastly expensive. The availability and price of them (and Stingrays) here in the states is still a big question mark. I will have to keep the search on in eBay, et al.

Splendid work on the ships and terrain BTW!

capncarp

I see what you mean about shipping to the states: even those that do so (which is not all of them on ebay) are charging a lot

Thanks for the battle report, and info, John.

Glad to hear the kids and other players (older kids) were all able to eeek out wins.

John, if you were able to get this (or a Slammers game) to Historicon, I would go again! That Con needs more "different" games.

John Treadaway29 Apr 2015 1:50 p.m. PST

I would love to….

@ capncarp,

From time to time I send parcels over to friends in the States, things I pick up at shows for them or ebay sales etc. If you want to leave your email here I'll drop you a line and see if we can get something sorted out for you. There are plenty of these for sale in the UK – that might change with this renewed interest or it might see prices rise encouraging more to sell. Which ever way it turns out if you need a special agent in the UK…

capncarp05 May 2015 8:57 p.m. PST

Timmo, that's my username at yahoo dotcom.

Many thanks.

Email on it's way.

John, you didn't an article in Miniature Wargames!

Of course, paying twice what you would have for a magazine is pretty crazed, but there are SUCH pretty pictures. ;->=

Congrats on being in print!

As for the foolish expenditure, I also chalk it up to Brigade Models exposure. (I know, I know, Tony, you'd rather I sent the money direct.)

Doug – we always do articles (where possible) for Warlords show games in the section of Mini-Wargs that becomes (via a print over run) the show programme.

Glad you liked it :)
