Interesting news from the AAG command.

Ambush Alley will return, in a new, backwards compatible, format.

ambushalleygames.net/blog

Seeing that the FoF book is OoP and the contract with Osprey ended this is a very good thing.

And an interesting step forward.

And there will be stuff for Tomorrow's War and Ambush Z as well, using the same basic rules and source books.

Never knew it was gone.

XRaysVision27 Apr 2015 4:57 a.m. PST

Huh? I was on the Osprey website yesterday ordering stuff. Force on Force and all supplements are available in multiple formats as is Tomorrow's War.

Look again, XRay

The main rulebook is only available in pdf.

XRaysVision27 Apr 2015 5:39 a.m. PST

I saw that, but I did not interpret the "out of stock" as "out of print." If you back out to the previous catalog page, it says "multiple formats." The supplements are available.

I'm not disputing what you said, but what did the Ambush Alley blog actually say?

Henrix27 Apr 2015 5:43 a.m. PST

I dare say it is, they'll hardly do a reprint if the contract is over.
AAG still has the rights to the game.

To see what the blog says I suggest following the link I gave ;-)

XRaysVision27 Apr 2015 5:53 a.m. PST

Maybe they're just selling off existing stock. AAG never gave up the rights to any of their games. But rights doesn't necessarily mean all o0r nothing. Osprey is still sells the PDF so they have retained some rights for some period of time at the very least.

I'm not going to go into any details on our contract with Osprey, but suffice it to say that our contract clearly dictated how many print copies of the book could be produced and left us with full ownership of our IP in both print and digital form. Osprey was as interested in protecting our IP as we were – they were and continue to be great to work with.

We're purposefully not sinking Force on Force by putting out a new edition. The new version of Ambush Alley is not FoF 3. It's a different game with a different scope. It will be compatible with FoF to the extent that folks who want to use some of the smaller scenarios from our FoF companion books to play AA will be able to do so.

If you want more detail, please read the blog post:

We'll be following up with more info in the weeks to come!

All the best,

Shawn.

XRaysVision27 Apr 2015 7:43 a.m. PST

Thanks Shawn, I read the blog.

That's good news. There's definitely room for both rules. I have the original AA and look forward to a revised edition. I also have FoF and just bought the Cold War gone Hot supplement.

While AA ans FoF are compatible, AA is perfect for asymmetrical warfare and FoF is perfect for larger, more balanced modern forces.

I'm glad that you and Osprey seemed to have a good association. I hope that, whether or not AA and Osprey extend the relationship, that FoF continues to be available.

Sounds really cool! Good luck with the project!

Not FoF, but a game using a simplified mechanism, and WW2… Oh yes, this could be good!

A damn sight better than "Bolt Action"

Thanks, XRay! What you said above is exactly why we've gone the route we have. AA & FoF can (and will) compliment one another and folks that have purchased FoF recently will still get their full money's worth out of the game – it's NOT rendered obsolete or displaced by AA.

It's nice to see so many people are as excited as we are about coming full circle with the Ambush Alley rules! I think we're all going to have a lot of fun with this project!

Best,

Shawn.

Osprey did a fine job on their publication of FoF. Glad it was a good relationship between companies.

I hope we will see more supplements for it in future.

I am glad to see the return of AA.

Looking forward to them
