So here are some pictures of Salute games link It didn't seem a vintage year for games to me but still a lot of nice stuff on display. It was noticeable that, despite the obsession of the wargames magazines with 28mm figures there seemed to be a lot more small scale (ie 6 and 10mm) games on display. Not a lot of 15mm Napoleonic eye candy (except the Waterloo Campaign vignettes by AB) at all unfortunately. |

Can anyone explain what was the story with the Napoleanic game that had the mini film crew on the table? I've seen that a couple of times now and it really interests me. It's in photo #45. |

PaulCollins, I thought it was somthing like in that Monty Pyton movie (can't recall the name), where the English got arrested while besiegeing a French castle. |

Lol! That's why I was asking. I was wondering if maybe they were gaming re-enactors or something. |

They were gaming the filming of Sharpe's Waterloo – you need to have seen the TV programme to appreciate that this game was working with a 1:1 figure scale, the building was supposed to represent Hougomont and there were various event cards for film related incidents "helicopter scares horses – cavalry take one turn to reform", "Sean Bean called away to take a call from some Kiwi named Jackson – British lose Sharpe for 2 turns" and stuff like that. Of course being the RAF one or two of the cards were funnier and less politically correct. |

Those Napoleonics at 55-65 – Front Rank mostly – are really well painted. |

Thanks for AAR and pics Much appreciated. I would like to suggest you shoot pics without flash to avoid the " game in a dark closet" background. Thx Clif |

@Flashman 14 – those were painted by the guys from Loughton Strike Force in Essex. Their 15mm AB Napoleonics are just as nice, as are their 15mm WWII stuff. They are a pretty talented bunch. @Clifblksull – I've tried that but the lighting at Excel is pretty awful (the venue is designed for "professional" shows where most stands have their own lighting and without that help everything is rather dull) so the exposure time gets longer and you get table wobble etc. And I only have a fairly crappy little camera…so "game in a dark closet" is a fairly apt description (although not as terrible as some venues I've been to). |
