Hi all,

Here are some pictures of my first finished 1/300 unit- 1870 French infantry from Heroics and Ros. Loving this scale. My next few bases will be a lot more dynamic. Sorry the photos are full of glare.
The porte-aigle should not be dressed as a lignard but no major qualm.
Also, given my OCD with this sort of stuff, I'd appreciate any opinions on the way I've accidentally placed the flag, officer and drum more off-centre than I see other people's units with a 12-man rank. I'm quite bothered with where I placed the flag- should it be right in the middle of the rank? Considering the weaponry and evolving tactics of the Franco-German War, perhaps I shouldn't worry about getting it in near-perfect arrangement. I'm yet to see a painting from the war with orderly Napoleonic lines anyway; everyone, buglers, officers etc included, is either running or lying prone in skirmish.

Without further ado:

Thanks for looking!

My those look really good. Nice body proportions and good painting.

On the flag and placement issues. No reason to fret mate. Frankly me and you both now that in battle the unit would be dispersed in skirmish lines. And indeed it is an open question if the flag would be with the battalion at all in battle. So no. This is fine.

They look great.

A question, not a criticism: Why are the figures set against the back of the base? Usually they get centered or placed at the front (to give space for dice or ID markers)? Is it for a particular system?

Great stuff, thanks for posting. I have a bunch of Baccus FPW waiting for paint and this will be my 1st real effort with the scale, too. Which rules are you planning to use?

Wish my first attempts at 6mm had turned out even half as well as yours. Very nice.

Thanks guys, glad you like them. There's more to come, from different periods..
The realistic body proportions are what drew me to this range in particular.

There's isn't much of a proper justification for my placing of the figures so close to the back edge. Liked the look for some reason, but I also noticed a picture of a Baccus stand arranged as such, to make room for skirmishers in front. Planning to read the Polemos rules and if I like them, I'll snip some figures at the feet and glue them on. It's just that the idea of the skirmish line being represented as that close to the rank and file is, regardless of in-game ground scale, as of yet unconvincing to me. Not judging until I've read and played them though!

Now, back to work on 1/300 scale Haussmann apartments for the Paris Commune.. :D
