I'd like build up a few pike blocks of Italian War Swiss (1515 to 1530) from the Artizan line and was wondering if it would be appropriate to throw in a few of their Landsknecht figures to give more variety to the look.

my understanding is they both wore pretty much whatever they felt like – so why not?

The main difference between these units for the given era would be
a) the + shaped cross used by the swiss, while the Imperials used the x shaped cross.
b) the usage of Katzbalger-swords by the Landsknechts, while swiss used a dagger (Schweizerdolch) or sword.
c) different feathers, slightly more (austrich) with the Swiss.

If you replace the pretty distinctive Katzbalger and do not paint out the Andrews cross, the Landsknechts minis will fit in pretty well with the Swiss. Just imho.

BTW: Contemporary illustrations will give you a pretty good impression of the usual outfits. For a couple of different reasons this era and subject is pretty well documented by a host of splendid artists.
