Does this hobby tend to attract eccentric people?

true or false

Mute Bystander23 Apr 2015 7:36 p.m. PST

True but not us alone…

Oh yes, myself being a prime example.

Just because you are a character doesnt mean you have character.

There are eccentrics but every hobby has them.

John the OFM23 Apr 2015 9:10 p.m. PST

ALL hobbies attract eccentric people.

Coyotepunc and Hatshepsuut23 Apr 2015 9:24 p.m. PST

I'm not eccentric. I have some actual diagnoses that used to be just eccentricity.

Does this hobby tend to attract mentally ill people? Myself as an example ;-)

Does this hobby tend to attract eccentric people?

We can only hope so!

Everyone is eccentric but me. Why should I have my head shrunk, when the universe is expanding to fit it.

Martin Rapier24 Apr 2015 2:59 a.m. PST

I participate in a range of hobbies and they all attract 'eccentrics', just as the world of work does.

Isn't the diversity of humanity wonderful!

Read the posts in the Lounge…'nuff said.

SJDonovan24 Apr 2015 3:35 a.m. PST

If you think you are eccentric you are not eccentric.

GarrisonMiniatures24 Apr 2015 3:40 a.m. PST

Everyone is eccentric to someone.

redbanner414524 Apr 2015 4:52 a.m. PST

My wife would say true.

Sundance24 Apr 2015 5:24 a.m. PST

I'm not sure 'eccentric' is the correct choice of words for most gamers…

Just sayin'…

Any hobby focuses so narrowly as to emphasize eccentricity. From the golfer constantly changing equipment and swing to the model railroader focusing on Appalachian short tracks, the more interests are concentrated, the more visible the eccentricity.

warhawkwind24 Apr 2015 7:52 a.m. PST

Why is it that when a rich person does something odd, they are called "Excentric", but if a poor person does something odd, they are considered to be "Nuts"? I prefer to count myself in the latter category. Pass the dice please, mister Warbler Mangrove.

You have to be at least mildly eccentric to participate in our hobby. Some participate more than others.

ironicon24 Apr 2015 9:02 a.m. PST

absolutely not! And my pet duck agrees with me.

All of the boys I associated with in my neighborhood played ball, rode bikes, played with toy soldiers, built model cars, watched movies, etc.

Now that we are all adults, we all still doing one or two of these things in our spare time. One guy is really into cycling, another fiddles around with car engines, a third plays in softball leagues, and I wargame with model soldiers. So, what's the big deal? Does that make me eccentric?

Gaming is full of weirdos but I am not convinced it's got more weirdos than anything else out there.

Emotive conjugation:
I have an independent mind, You are eccentric, He is round the twist.

Dynaman878924 Apr 2015 1:28 p.m. PST

OFM said it best. All hobbies attract eccentrics.

Henry Martini24 Apr 2015 3:36 p.m. PST

If you're merely eccentric in an undeniably insane world you're ahead of the game.

JezEger25 Apr 2015 2:36 a.m. PST

To call someone eccentric you first have to define what normal is.

OldGrenadier Fezian25 Apr 2015 9:04 a.m. PST

The whole world is eccentric.
