Hi guys,

now up to my neck in the powdery stuff, I thought I'd share this. Making hills with high density foam board.

You never know, it might help some one.

Superb instruction… many thanks for posting it.

You stated that you used a cloth as an underlay for your terrain mat (baize). Why do you do this and what type of cloth is ideal?

I use a very simple underlay to put my cloth over – cheap as chips but a bit 'padded'. Hill shapes go between. Two reasons. First, the underlay stops things slipping (for want of a better word) on a wooden table top. Secondly, my table cloth is a very high quality woven woolen fabric – it is a championship snooker baize, 97% merino wool (it's probably a better cloth than your best suit is made of) worth in excess of £1,000.00 GBP – and I want it to wear well. I got this one free, I will not get another.

Very nicely done tutorial. I've used both 1/2" and 1" high density foam. I have some more hill I need to make so I'll give your techniques a try.

Thanks,

Jim

Excellent set up. Using the contours under your cloth gives a nicely finished look to the table and creates real " hidden ground".

Thanks guys,

Oh, BTW, the stuff in the corner, it isn't hills, is coast for some galley stuff. Different foam, that stuff was 20mm pink.
