#2 son bought a set of Polyhedrals (apparently his current set must hate him!) when we dropped #1 off at Uni last week. Because its a 3 hour drive we always eat before coming home and leaving #1 (and he gets a proper meal before being left to fend for himself!)

So we are sitting in the restaurant after eating – Lady Hussar is in the Loo – and #2 pulls out the dice and starts rolling. On the spot I invent a game

You roll all the dice (not the 10s d10, just the normal 4,6,8,10 and 20)

You may reroll the set twice, keeping any you like in your hand (ie you only reroll what you don't like)

Winner is who ever gets most of a 'kind'. If 2 people have the same number then the highest value wins, with the non set dice acting as the 'kickers'

eg
1-1-1-1 beats 5-5-5
3-3-3-3 beats 2-2-2-2
1-1-1-20 beats 1-1-1-19

because they are polys, it leads to interesting choices you don't get in normal poker dice. Do you stay low, knowing you can get 6 of a kind if you stick to collecting 4s or less, or do you go with a match the number beat the value strategy?

If you roll 8s on the d12 and d20, but 1s on the d4, d6 and d8, do you try to get 4 8s or 6 ones – are you hoping that the better odds of getting the 8s on the 8 and the d10 outweighs the 5% you have of getting what you need on the d20?

Even my wife was getting into it (she says she isn't into games, but gets quite forceful once playing!)

Interesting! We'll have to give it a try.

it should get even more interesting if you add straights and full houses .

I did think that, but wasn't sure where they sit in the odds table for Poly's. The thing is as it stands its quick and easy to learn.
