Great clip.
So Napoleon was an enthusiast of Little Wars! Would that be the Napoleon who died in 1821, 92 years before the book was written:-)

Miniature Figurines, when they were in Southampton, had a signed picture of Peter Cushing on the wall. He must have been a good customer.

I believe that it was referring to Napoleons interest in Toy soldiers rather than little wars the book

Have you not seen Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure?
Napoleon picked up a copy of Wells' book in San Dimas.

Hadn't seen that for quite a while. Always a pleasure to watch it again.
Anyone know of video of other famous people playing wargames?

There are quite a few wargaming or toy soldier videos on the Pathe site now – search for wargaming or "Toy Soldiers".

Some interesting ones showing the Britain's factory and of course the fabulous Marcus Hinton one showing him playing a game with his wife who is in full uniform…

Thanks for showing that video I haven't seen it for a long time and lost track of it.

Since all of the figures that were shown were Britain's figures, I wonder why the narrator said they were made from crushed drawing paper with removable helmets and weapons.

I wish I had his steady hand to paint figures holding them out in front of me. I need to rest my hands and the figure on a solid surface.

Jim,
Thank you for posting the link to the Battleground series with Edward Woodward – I never thought I'd see those again! I'd been wargaming for a few years when those came out on ITV, and they made me feel very mainstream. Back in the day I saw them on a black and white TV, so it's great to see them in color.
Woodward did such a great job introducing the subject and describing the activity at the tables.
Thanks to Doug C for uploading them to YouTube in the first place!

@Ligniere

No problem.

I am duty bound by my club constitution to promote the hobby wherever.

I've also had the pleasure of meeting a few of these guys in the flesh over the years. I had a beer in Antwerp with Duncan Macfarlane only last November.

He must have been pretty tough, though, playing on the floor while smoking. They'd have to call the ambulance for me by the time the game was over.

Absolutely – in film after film he'd defeat Dracula as Van Helsing – great memories of those Hammer Horror movies, and especially those featuring Madeline Smith…. a teenage boys dream!

A Gentleman must always paint and play in smoking jacket with suitable cravat worn.
