This is specifically for fantasy and science fiction gamers: When you use different sets of rules, do you change the world your games are set in, do you adapt them all to one common world or does it depend? A: I always use one world for my games and adapt the rules to fit. B: Different worlds for each game. C: Same broad world for each game but tweaked to fit the rules. D: I just put dudes on the table. E: Inventing things is best left to the professionals. |

F. The same world for many games, different worlds for other games, my own world for some games. Most of my games are historical so they happen in the same world. I also play 40K and really like the fluff for that, so all of that is set in that world. Infinity I don't like their fluff much so use my own. DzC I use their fluff which is pretty good. Fantasy games largely depend on what I saw or read last. |

G. Must game more with SciFi figs and rules, so I can answer the question, but no, theoretically a combo of B. (hopefully, most of the time), with A. turning up, when multiple battles, or scenarios make sense, on a nice planet, moon, or asteroid. |

B to C, shades of Gaming Grey. Historical games – here on Earth. SF – on Earth and/or other worlds which may or may not (depending on timeline) in "Earth's" Future. VSF – on Earth and/or other worlds which may or may not (depending on timeline) in "Earth's" Past. Fantasy – on a world which may or may not be Earth (Past or Future or "not at all.") |

B+ I have a set of different backgrounds (which matter to me because they drive objectives and provide campaign continuity across multiple engagements) that I primarily use, but am not averse to coming up with a one-off setting for a game. The main settings themselves may be either tightly controlled (when we use points & track casualties and resources from game to gam) or loose where we may refight a battle or ignore a past event so we can play a really fun engagement in our Imaginations campaign. |

C-ish; I have a few different settings I've come up with that I enjoy using and I often set games in, but I'm not averse to creating one off or an 'alternate universe' of an existing one if some rules set I want to try has rules that don't quite fit. -Will |

On a practical level, B. Most of my fantasy gaming is either Warhammer or HoTT (unless you count RPGs, then it is D&D, Pathfinder). I specifically use HoTT to game out mass battles in our fantasy RPG games (usually set in Greyhawk, though we used the Pathfinder setting when playing those rules). If we're talking about SF, I tend to game in specific "properties," like 40K, or Star Trek, Star Wars, and hopefully HALO. I tend not to "make up" my own SF miniatures settings, though would be happy to do so for SF RPGs. I also enjoy Historicals, so that is an A. Damon. |
