Hey all,

Suggestions for 20mm French for skirmish? I see Lancer and EarlyWar Miniatures. Does anyone have a comparison?

I have SHQ, Blitz, FAA and Warmodelling. Of those I think that Blitz is the best with FAA being a close second.

Can't beat the Blitz figures

We at Early war Miniatures have the most extensive range of ww2 french covering infantry, dragoons Porte, colonial , chasseurs alpine, dismounted motorcyclists and recon types. Cavalry including colonial types mounted and dismounted. Artillery, every major gun deployed by the French is covered from 37mm m1916 right up to 220mm Cuissot mortars. All the gun tows and carriers in common use from the 1916 Latil tar still in service in 1940 to the S35. Horse drawn from infantry single horse pulled 25mm atg's' to 6 horse teams pulling field guns, many guns come with wooden and pneumatic wheels as this was a time of transition, even train rollers which were military trailers for vehicles pulling wooden wheeled guns at the time. Infantry support weapons, mg's to mortars many now with both carrying and deployed poses. Communications for infantry from flag semi fore teams to the most modern portable radio units and including lamp based signalling. Vehicles, from every troop carrier used be it armoured or soft skin, from s20 to lorrain 38 with armoured trailers. Tanks from light AMR's both 33's to 35's in 3 variants to the Char B1 and all tanks in between. Motorcycles in 4 types, military trailers the list goes on and on. I have probably forgotten some, but the above list gives you a basic idea of the scale and size of the range we have.
With many more improvements to the range being made and soon to be released,
EWM has the most extensive range of ww2 french in 20mm scale anywhere.
It's a passion of mine so I'm very motivated to keep adding to it. Just thought you should know. If it's early war in 20mm scale, come and look at Early War miniatures website at earlywarminiatures.com.

OK. There's no doubt that Early War Miniatures has the most comprehensive range of things WW2 and French in 20mm. That said, if you're in the US, the shipping costs are going to sting a bit, so you might need to look at US sources for things Frrench to get the job done.

Reviresco makes the following 1/72 scale white metal models right here in the US:

*Char B1bis
*Char Legere FCM 36
*Char Legere Renault FT17 (kit includes two turrets and the 7.5mm Mle 31 machine gun as a weapon fit option)
*M1897 75mm field gun and limber (VERY detailed yet easy to build model).
*Laffly S20TL troop carrier (three different variants available)
*Laffly S20TL colonial truck variant

The Pegasus 1/72 scale plastic figure set is excellent. It includes option parts to build two additional FM 24/27 gunners, essential to field the ten man dragons porte squads (which had two FM24/27 automatic rifles per squad to make up for the smaller number of personnel).

The set includes the VB rifle grenade launchers and the Hotchkiss M1914 heavy machine gun.

FAA figures are IIRC available in the US, so that adds metal figures including gun crews, antitank guns, mortars, command, and anti tank guns and an AMR 33 tankette and a Citroen-Kegresse P17 troop carrier halftrack for the dragons porte in the DLCs.

Hope this helps!

Yup. FAA appears to still be with us with things French, including tanks, guns, and Moroccans…

RAFM Miniatures of Canada still makes a very nice white metal Panhard P178, Lorraine tracked APC with armored troop trailer, Renault R35/39, and Hotchkiss H38/39 ( both of the chars legere come with the short and long 37mm gun option).

Except FAA have very poor customer service, see my thread over in the Consumer Affairs board, why do people buy a company if they have no intention of treating their customers with any respect

Still say the Battlefield stuff is the best

Von Miligan03 May 2015 10:37 a.m. PST

For all you American customers, good news is, we now have an American reseller that you can get a large proportion of our ranges from, especially our WW2 French.
Go to small scale models and enter EWm in the serch field to see the EW, ranges they ar e stocking. we are still stocking them up currently, but they have gone for and are stocking a large part of our ranges.
I will post a proper link soon, but for now, get in there and support your "local" reseller in the USA.
By the way, we are always looking for more people and stores who would like to trade all or any of our extensive and growing ranges of miniatures, scenery and models.
Cheers

Pity about FAA. Well, at least Reviresco and RAFM remain reliable, and I agree with you about the Battlefield/Blitz figures being excellent, but one still can't beat the price points of the Pegasus 1/72 scale plastic set:

I use quite a mix,

Faa, Foundry and blitz/battlefield, and early war together, have ShQ for tank and vehicle crews, a big mix of brands for trucks and guns and tanks.

working on some Algerians at the moment should be done by the weekend

Here is the link to the Early War Miniatures USA trade agent. They are a well established retailer of models and are called SmallMilitaryModels. They have a website and an ebay shop. They are based in California.

auction

That will take them to the primary store and by typing:

EWM

into the in-store search it will list all of the Early War Miniatures products that they have listed. There are about 250 up and running now (and selling nicely!) and will be a few more every day until everything is up.
Mike Tobiner is the store owner and a really nice person to deal with. Now get ordering all you US customers!
