Last night I did a reconnaissance of the Carmarthen Old Guard club. The first problem was finding it. The Business Man's Dining Club does not exactly advertise its presence from Lammas Street, and numbers on the buildings are sporadic, to say the least. However, I spotted a gentleman of middle years disappearing down an alley and carrying a couple of cardboard boxes, and thought, `Aha! Wargamer'. So the key is to look out for a hairdresser called KARIZMA and go down the alley at the side. Towards the end is the Dining Club. Go in and upstairs and there you find wargamers.

The room is, presumably, the function room. It is big, clean, in good decorative order and well-lighted, with lots of comfortable chairs, and tables measuring about two feet by three and a half feet. Apparently, there are larger tables available. At the moment, members have to bring their own playing surfaces, scenery etc., but negotiations are in place for the use of a large cupboard. Downstairs are the toilets and bar. The staff are welcoming and polite, and show no signs of astonishment at hosting wargamers.

There were 5 members there last night, and I have the feeling that this was typical. They are a friendly, cheerful and talkative bunch, with a wide range of wargame interests. There are plans afoot to extend their activities to weekends, provided that they can find a suitable place. This was the first night in these premises, and there were games going on of DBA and armoured warfare.

If you're in the area and free on a Wednesday evening, I would certainly suggest giving it a try. There are quite a lot of wargamers in the area, but it seems many of them are hermits. I don't know why – I can certify that the Carmarthen Old Guard don't bite.

Careful… or I'll sell that Tie Fighter you want me to hold for you!

Don't worry about the TIE – I'm giving my spare TIE Advanced to Darth Small. :)

Re: 7YW. How about 22 June?

Hi John

That sounds good to me, what size table will you need?

Oudinot14 Jun 2016 5:55 a.m. PST

Also, what rules do you use?

John Watts14 Jun 2016 9:17 a.m. PST

The ordinary 2 x 3 table will do. As this is for your benefit, I thought we'd use the rules you have – Honours of War.
