I can't see why not, after the civil war there was loads of uniforms and kit leftover so some of it must of being put to use. I'm no expert but hats where more commen then kepi's, they where better for the troopers due to the brim all the way around. Shirts where more commen than jackets if I remember correctly, and the sabre normally got ditched. End of the day they are your figures and as long as your happy with them that's all that matters. |

Try Red Cloud's War, 1866. |

That is blasphemy! no proxies allowed in historicals! if you have to ask the answer is always no. I've actually encountered this attitude. ymmv, R |

You can use civil war kit and weapons through to the late 1860s. In the 70s they started to introduce new uniforms and dropped their Spencer repeaters for single shot breechloaders (for the greater range and hitting power). |

Remember Indian Wars in the West occurred prior to the Civil War and also during the Civil War. Civil War cavalry would work just fine for these. Also, the Indians often did better in these fights than in those after the Civil War. |

I can readily see using Perry's 28mm plastic ACW cavalry as a starting point, with only moderate modifications, for plains cavalry spanning several decades. Has anyone got any ideas on a starting point for 28mm hard plastic western Indians? Has anyone tried to modify War Games Factory plastic Woodland Indians to plains Indians? Better yet, does anyone know of a manufacturer ready to come out with 28mm hard plastic western Indians? Thank you. |

Even after the new regulations came in the policy was to use existing stocks, so you'd find the earlier pattern uniforms and equipment still in use out in the forts. Main issue with the Perry kit is the lack of right hand options if you don't want sabres. There are pistols, but no carbine or open hand, so a little swapping or conversion will be required. WGF Woodlands Indians would make a reasonable base for plains indians on foot. Also check out the Perry's Anasar Warriors from their Sudan range – they have Remington rifles and a bunch of handy arm options. Very useful kit. |
