Which rulesets are the best? |

I know there are a lot of naysayers out there, but we really like Roman Seas. There are a few glitches in the rules, but nothing a few simple house rules can't contend with. And the ship models are relatively simple and elegant. With a little practice, you can build a dozen in a couple of hours (once they're cut out, that is – the most time consuming part. |

Trireme (the Ed Smith version) still the best I've played. x42 |

I'd say Salamis ad Actium, but then I might be biased :) |

Corvus. Nice and simple, can play a big battle in a couple of hours. |

I've got Trireme (game), Corvus and the old WRG set. They all give a good game, but Corvus probably just tops the others on the grounds of lack of record keeping. For Renaissance galleys, the best set I've found are the (very) old WRG rulettes. Quick, no record keeping; kind of like a pre-DBA for the C16th Mediterranean. |
