Well that's the plan anyway. My Cigar Box Battle Mat arrived this morning from Nick at NorthStar and the next game in the "shed" will be the big battle itself using the cards from Blucher and Neil Thomas's Simplicity In Practice rules. Here are some photos of the battlefield with a few units placed on to give you an idea. I know its not everyone's cup of tea, but its the only way I'm going to get to fight the battle in its 200th anniversary. I suppose longer term I could replace the cards with figures and get some three dimensional terrain down on top of the mat, but I'm a wargames butterfly so there's not much chance of that happening this year, especially with all the Colonial stuff coming out to tempt me. The mat itself is a very high quality fleece which I know has had some bad press, but I like it. [URL=http://s1301.photobucket.com/user/Jeffrey965/media/IMG_0004_zpsvaogjbwe.jpg.html]

Soon about to fall off the too close end of the world, these redcoats. |

I have never played a wargame in my life, but I have to say that this looks right. Of course it can only ever be Waterloo and i gather there were other battles in the Nap Wars (eg Quatre Bras, Ligny and Wavre………) Jc Frog said it. There is masses of room for a French staging area, but DoW's lads might have a problem. Remember most of them spent most of the day behind the Ohain Rd, the rigeline. I know there was a reverse slope, but it seems bit steep here! It is vertical or non existent. |

Oh yeh, I see what you mean, there is about a 4" overhang on the Allied side which will give a bit more deployment room, but I'll have to give the game a go and let you all know how I got on. |
