Hi all,

We played the second play test of the Talavera Night Attack scenario this week with changes incorporated from the first game.

We ended up with a very different result and a much better idea of what next to try in the third and final play.

Good re-fight with the results swinging the other way.

Look forward to reading the third instalment.

Cheers,
Robert

Shouldn't the night attack be played with the lights off?

Nicely done.

We played the day battle of Talavera a couple of years ago and I honestly believe it served to give me a better appreciation of how things went, even given the limitations associated with gaming.

After reading a couple of books and having had a rough impression to begin with, it was nice to see the initial deployment and to gain a visual idea as to where the units were etc.

The night conflict though is a great idea, and I'm looking forward to the next instalment.

Lights off and each player wearing a miners helmet with a tiny light on it.

Thanks for your comments chaps. The lights were off, it was just a very powerful flash.

Night battles add a whole different layer of difficulty for the respective sides in that the fights become separate little battles in there own right with very little opportunity for support from other units and commands. Thus the rule is to get stuck in quickly and decisively.

In reality, the French units involved had to do it all again the next morning and you can only imagine how shattered they must have been after the previous night's exertions.
