Remember. Episode I looked good in previews. I will remain cautiously optimistic. |

After the huge let down after seeing episode 1, I learned not to expect good things anymore. In short, its hard to get excited over this. |

Nope. And that video is annoying, it took over control of my screen (with a frozen Chewi and Han in a dim background) while I had to listen to some stupid ad…. |

For my self I liked Episode I NappyBuff can you explain why you had such a huge let down after seeing it? I did enjoy the crashed Star Destroyer on the planet which was pretty cool. |

Yep, gonna have to see this one! |
javelin98 | 16 Apr 2015 3:09 p.m. PST |
The prequels were awful. This, on the other hand, looks exciting! Needs more lens flare, though, in order to be a true Abrams enterprise. (see what I did there?)

There was no episodes 1-3. I refuse to believe it. If Hans and Chewie and Lea and Luke are not in it it is not Star Wars. |
Captain Gideon | 16 Apr 2015 4:48 p.m. PST |
doug redshirt I think you're wrong there as there were Episodes 1-3 along with Episodes 4-6. And for myself the prequels weren't as bad as some people might think and if I didn't like them I wouldn't have bought them. |

Is it just the angle, or do those X-Wings have semi-circular intakes? It would be cool to see some minor variations on the design show up. |
Who asked this joker | 16 Apr 2015 6:21 p.m. PST |
the prequels weren't as bad as some people might think This is true. They were not all that bad. They were not all that good either. I still have not seen Episode III. I lost my will to see them after the second episode. |

AFAIC, the prequels are part of the EU, and can be ignored at will. |

Mako11 | 16 Apr 2015 11:32 p.m. PST |
The prequels were horrible for the most part. I see why Lucas skipped to Episode 4 first, since otherwise the whole series never would have been produced. |

Dynaman8789 | 17 Apr 2015 4:52 a.m. PST |
When I saw the rebooted Star Trek I figured Abrams would make a great SW director – he got the witty exchanges of dialog into ST that SW was famous for. The stilted dialog is the biggest problem with the prequals. |

Flashman14 | 17 Apr 2015 6:01 a.m. PST |
I liked 1-3 well enough. I just like being in that wonderful world for a few hours. My optimism for 7 (and the auxiliaries) is unchecked, primarily because Lucas had so little to do with it. |
TwinMirror | 17 Apr 2015 7:30 a.m. PST |
Yawn. I found the trailer utterly tiresome and contrived. It just ticks all the most obvious star wars boxes, both in terms of content (a desert planet? again? yet another rebranded storm trooper?) and style:'the force is strong in my family…'. Rehashing of dialogue that seemed pretty hackneyed the 1st time around. I find Abrams to be a pretty predictable and by-the-book director; he did nothing interesting with the star trek franchise that hadn't been done in the series' previous films, and from watching this trailer, I seriously doubt he'll bring anything new to star wars, either. But then I doubt the studio or most fans want the series to develop in interesting ways; a lot of people seem to be happy just getting some repackaged McStar Wars cliches. |
boy wundyr x | 17 Apr 2015 8:25 a.m. PST |
Star Wars fans want a decent adventure movie in the setting we're accustomed too. You might have noticed Abrams blew up Vulcan in his ST treatment, that's not something we're looking for. While people may be on the fence about Abrams based on that, at least what we're seeing isn't taking us there. Nor are we looking for Star Wars to turn into Apocalypse Now or Citizen Kane. Not sure why anyone would sweat the re-branded stormtroopers either, I mean is the US Army at fault because the modern US soldier is just a re-brand of the 1985 US soldier, who was a rebrand of the 1955 US soldier… |
Who asked this joker | 17 Apr 2015 8:29 a.m. PST |
You might have noticed Abrams blew up Vulcan in his ST treatment, that's not something we're looking for. Well, he can't blow up Alderaan again. Maybe he could blow up an entire solar system or a galaxy. |
Only Warlock | 17 Apr 2015 8:32 a.m. PST |
I love it and think Abrams is doing it right. For God's sake he went back to the Ralph Mcquarrie original concept work for inspiration! Also look at some of the stormtrooper concept art for Empire Strikes Back and see how it influenced the new designs. I am really impressed and excited. |

"Chewie, we're home." I had tears of joy when I heard Han said that. |
Ghostrunner | 17 Apr 2015 2:24 p.m. PST |
Dunno… … doesn't seem like Star Wars without the astute political commentary. Really, can 105 minutes of adventure and excitement really be all that entertaining?1? |
javelin98 | 17 Apr 2015 4:18 p.m. PST |
That's a good point, Ghostrunner. We really need more interstellar trade disputes and examinations of the mundane biological origins of the Force. |
Ghostrunner | 17 Apr 2015 8:06 p.m. PST |
And awkward romance scenes that make Twilight look like Shakespeare. |
TwinMirror | 18 Apr 2015 7:23 a.m. PST |
Oh, I'm guessing there will indeed be awkward romance scenes…the white chick (yet another skywalker, I suppose) and the black dude in the stormtrooper getup. And I have the horrible suspicion that he's only in it as a sort of squeamish attempt to apologise for the racist blunder of jar jar binks. Or 'uncle tom' binks as I call him. I think Abram's destruction of Vulcan was just an unimaginative attempt to be shocking and stir up the fans. And time travel…almost all time travel in films ends up being cheesy. At least we have the new mad max film to look forward to…I found the trailer actually pretty exciting. |
Captain Gideon | 18 Apr 2015 8:11 a.m. PST |
Racist blunder of Jar Jar Binks TwinMirror give me a break what kind of proof do you have for making such a statement? |
Paint it Pink | 18 Apr 2015 9:46 a.m. PST |
For me it's all about the writers delivering on the promise. JJ failed on Star Trek not because of lens flare or other such stuff, but because ST promises this: "Space: the final frontier. These are the voyages of the starship Enterprise. Its five-year mission: to explore strange new worlds, to seek out new life and new civilizations, to boldly go where no man has gone before." Whereas Star Wars promises this: "A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away…." SW is ultimately a fairy tale with SF trappings, and IMNSHO JJ can probably deliver on that, because it's what he gave us with ST reboot. BTW: I discussed my re-watching of all six SW films here: link |
billthecat | 18 Apr 2015 10:48 a.m. PST |
I'm afraid that even if we don't get political debates, we are probably in store for a good deal of more subtle ideological advertising. This is Disney now, too…. Also, I'm not sure another 'chosen one/s' plot is something good…. Especially with that same damn family…. |
Ghostrunner | 18 Apr 2015 11:06 a.m. PST |
Time travel… for all the silly clichés Star Wars has embraced, at least they actually turned down the one proposed novel that would have dealt with time travel in the Star Wars universe. Terminator was the only time travel story I really enjoyed, if only because it WAS the plot. Another Skywalker? Guess I don't really have any issue with that. It's kind of like hanging a lampshade on it:
"Why can this young girl pick up a lightsaber for the first time and start slicing thru half the Empire?" "Because she's a Skywalker" "OK – got it, let's move on with the story." Black stormtrooper? No one's ever accused me of being the most multi-cultural sensitive person in the world. But, really I don't see any issue here. If the guy can act, and there's more to the presumed romance than they spent 7 minutes together and fell in love, I'm all for it.
Jar-Jar had many faults. The over-the-top Jamaican accent (which I'd call annoying more that racist) was really just the final twist of the knife. |
TwinMirror | 20 Apr 2015 5:42 a.m. PST |
Now let's all just watch the film and see if it lives up to our expectations, for better or for worse! |
