The French, I'm sure, built all sorts of reinforced, fortified positions as protection fro guerillas…that said I've not seen pictures myself.

Could you mean a blockhouse inside an earthen parapet or redoubt with access through the parapet by a drawbridge?

Jack Girbal has a painting of one if I recall correctly.

There's a print depicting a French blockhouse on page 44 of Osprey Elite 108, Spanish Guerrillas in the Peninsular War 1808-14

IIRC I think that there is a good-looking model in Touching History: link if you were looking for inspiration and didn't mind spending a few pounds.

That is an excellent model, not only the blockhouse and redoubt, but the village as well.

And it appears to me to be quite accurate, per the drawings and paintings I have seen of that type of fortification.

Great catch-well done.

The Touching History stuff was excellent. Paul Darnell was by far one of the most skilled model makers to have emerged.

Paul disappeared a couple of years ago to avoid people he had taken money from in exchange for models offered on his Touching History site.

Interesting his books are still available even if only as a PDF, so he's still sneaking about making enough money to buy a Burger King meal deal.

Unfortunately, like the song, old Paul is hiding out in a shed at Heathrow as he's just a crook & a s h i t bloke.
