I've started painting my O'Donel's Frei-corps using 15/18mm AB Grenz from the Revolutionary Wars range. I'm not sure whether to add the shako ornamentation or just paint up the figures as they are. It took quite a bit of work to convert one figure, so please can I ask everyone on here's opinion? Do I go for accuracy on make do? Here's the two trial figures…
More pictures are on my blog here… link Thanks for looking, Colin |

How many figures are you planning to do? If the number is not that high … go for the special! Just glue the things on (without drilling holes), if the figures are not going to be used by gross negligent wargamers. There was a discussion about this unit in Napleon Online, although it is in German, there are a lot of pictures: link link I've done mine with green coats, you might have chosen grey-green – or is it just the picture, that shows grey? |

I rather like what you did with the conversion. It makes them unique. |

Gren Corp, I added a little green to the grey, but it seemed to just look grey when it dried. I only have the osprey book as reference and that shows a greenish grey rather than a greyish green (if that makes sense). I can't see the pictures on the German forum as you need to be a member. I'm planning on doing three bases of these, with eight figures per base. Colin |

O donnel had green coats and not grey, this is another error of Ottenfeld and Teuber. There is a nice series on ASK Brown showing amongst else O deonnel as well (showing the grayish green) – I would opt for a normal green. In case it would be worthwhile to become a member of napoleon-online.de you should be however also be able to look at the Uniformenportal link and the all those wonderfull prints in excellent quality, also go for Austria and you see the Artaria series of 1793 also look at the Züricher Bilderhandschrift link and look for Strozzi Freikorps which did wear in 1799 still the O Donel uniform otherwise inspirational as always, great painting. |

Thanks for all the info. Von Winterfield, I tried joining that site but I haven't had a confirmation email, so still can't see the O'Donel images. Is there any way you can let me see the correct green? As I've only painted two of these guys it should be easy enough to change. |

Great looking work, I'd go with the ornament. Yes more work, but later you'll kick yourself for not doing it. |

Excellent work, I would add the plume. |

Got them. I'm just about to go and look to see how much I need to change these. Thank you in advance. I'm tempted to leave these two in the grey and pretend they ran out of green cloth. Colin |

That's them repainted, plus an officer done. He's a bit guess work though. I'll post pics later. |
