Well?

Push comes to shove I'd go for American Beauty.

Very close behind Workingman's Dead, then maybe From the Mars Hotel, Blues for Allah is rather good as well.

Terrapin Station isn't too bad! Blues for Allah could have been better….

I would go with Workingman´s Dead and then American Beauty. Although I love Ripple on American Beauty, as well as Box of Rain, and Sugar Magnolia, and…hmmmm, maybe my favorite is American Beauty!

Speaking of American Beauty, I always wondered if Sugar Magnolia and The Band´s Up on Cripple Creek were about the same girl.

Although Aoxomoxoa really shined in it's rawness and Workingman's Dead spoke even louder to me I always felt like Wake of the Flood was a little more polished and encompassed the vision a little more.

Hard to say, geez. Being such an evolution of sound it's hard to pin down one era. Ask again tomorrow for a different answer followed by more scattered logic!

In the Dark. It may not be their best, but it's the album that made me a fan.

Always a good reason.

as well as Box of Rain

Hearing that song made me realise I'd wasted years of my life not being a Dead fan.

@20thmaine- Very well said!

Back in the days when we actually had to get up and turn the LP over, I always thought the two lead tracks on American Beauty were the best one-two punch ever. How can you beat Box of Rain and Ripple???

Ripple is very beautiful.

Today though I've really been grooving (sorry, literally) to Franklin's Tower.

So funky and great guitar – of course – and those Robert Hunter lyrics.

'Tis magic.
