Hi All!

I just put up a quick blog post about my latest unit – 1960s-style VSF evil robots made from beads…

Hope you like!

Overdaedge16 Apr 2015 4:07 a.m. PST

WOW!!!! I need beads!!!

advocate16 Apr 2015 4:16 a.m. PST

They look really great.
I confess a slight disappointment since I misread the title as 'WAR-TOMATOES' and was intrigued. I should have known better since it wasn't on the 'Fighting Fruit Discussion' board, nor had it been crossposted to 'Violent Vegetables'.

Holy Cow! That's brilliant!

The battlefield is no place for a salad.

meledward2316 Apr 2015 4:32 a.m. PST

Impressive

Rich Bliss16 Apr 2015 4:46 a.m. PST

Oh my. Without the in-process photos, I'd have never have guessed what they were made of.

tberry740316 Apr 2015 5:26 a.m. PST

Paint them silver and they could pass for old Doctor Who Cybermen!

I say "tomato", you say "tomata".

Neat! Thanks for the pictures, especially the WIP ones.

Cool!

Even left unpainted they would be great.

The jewelry and beads sections in craft stores are your friends.

Mute Bystander16 Apr 2015 5:58 a.m. PST

Do you use glue, wire, line… to connect the beads?

Grimmnar16 Apr 2015 11:10 a.m. PST

Col, that is why they invented the salad shooter. For the battlefield.

The battlefield is no place for a salad.

It could be, if it's the wreckage left behind by a defeated army of evil swamp creatures…

Once again Colonel, your skills and creativity simultaneously intimidate and inspire me. They look great!

Colonel O Truth18 Apr 2015 9:56 p.m. PST

Thanks for all the comments, guys! Glad you like them.

tberry7403 – They definitely look a bit like Cybermen, although I only realised after I finished the first one – maybe it's a subliminal thing…

…or maybe something is controlling my brain?!

Mute Bystander – they are held together with ordinary cheap superglue for the beads, and Humbrol liquid poly for all the tubes, rivets, etc. You have to be careful with the superglue because if it coats any parts you later want to use liquid poly on, the latter won't work.

I'm thinking about doing more automata of different styles this way – the possibilities are limitless! And cheap.

ShortscaleDave19 Apr 2015 9:20 a.m. PST

Absolutely marvelous! I love your inventiveness and execution.

No. No one has fully stated the amazement the final results should engender.

No, I shall have words with the management immediately. Heads will roll!

Colonel…. I mean…

DAMN
