So, of the original fourteen 'mechs from the 1984 Battletech boxed set (later redacted, and dubbed "The Unseen" due to IP issues 'cause they were all ripped off from various anime sources) which do you think was best/coolest/whatever? 1. Locust 2. Wasp 3. Stinger 4. Phoenix Hawk 5. Shadowhawk 6. Griffon 7. Wolverine 8. Crusader 9. Thunderbolt 10. Rifleman 11. Archer 12. Warhammer 13. Marauder 14. Battlemaster 15. The Inner Sphere sucks, Clans rule. 16. I could probably tell you, if you'd bothered to provide any pictures. 17. Battlewhat, now? |

I will do mine chronologically: 80's: Battlemaster (the fact that I had the way-cool Revell Robotech model helped) 90's: Griffon 00's & up: Thunderbolt. It just looks like a bruiser, and the asymmetry REALLY grew on me after a couple of decades |

Warhammer, then Thunderbolt Rich |

Wolverine. The Marauder had too many heat issues to use its armament effectively, and the Warhammer didn't have enough armor. Wolverine was a nice blend of capabilities, with jump jets, decent armor for its tonnage, a crit-seeking SRM 6, AC/5 for some ranged options, and an med las as a back-up weapon. Honorable mention to the Steiner Griffin, and the Marik Marauder with the PPCs replaced with large lasers was a great design for the era… Damon. |

Marauder, hands down. Rifleman is a close second – most people didn't have a clue how to use it properly and ended up frying or dying. The Rifleman Tutorial: You are a gunner mech. Find a good piece of ground, preferably with level 1 water and blast away. Not many mechs in 3025 can handle a Rifleman dishing 26 points of damage per turn at long and medium ranges. Locust. THE GRAY DEATH LEGION LIVES! |

Warhammer and Archer. never actually used them that much but visually, they define Battletech for me. |

I got into Battletech as a total Robotech geek, so my favorite mech at the time was the Phoenix Hawk; nowadays, it's the Wolverine. Ron |

Love them all, the Warhammer WAS Battletech for me for many years, but my overall favorite as the best intersection of looks and also fun to drive is the Battlemaster. Also, to set the record straight- FASA *did* have what they thought was a valid license for these designs, from one of the North American model distributors or some such. However, when Harmony Gold bought up the rights to Robotech they declared that any previous contract for 'their' material was null and void. FASA didn't have the resources to fight this in court, and this is why they let the 'unseen' become so. But they didn't rip off the material, they paid for it. -Will |

Locust and (not listed) Scorpion "Hey, just what ya see, pal." (Ooh, I love the Scorpion, too.) Also, to set the record straight- FASA *did* have what they thought was a valid license for these designs It took so many years for anyone to confirm ANYTHING, I'd forgotten there was an updated story. Thanks for the full scoop. |

Marauder, though Rifleman was an early favorite of mine. The Early Macross/BT Battlemechs are some of my favorite Mecha designs and several of the model kits and toys have made their way into my 28mm scale mech games. |

Warhammer. That mech -IS-the definition of "mech" for me |

Choosing one is like choosing a favorite child; Perhaps some can do so, but not I. I am very glad the new Robotech plastics seem to be in-scale with existing RP/IWM models, but I would really love to see the images make a reappearance in the artwork. |
