After a long time planning, I finally got a game in of the latest addition of D&D. I got to use my Dwarven Forge Dungeon Tiles as well.

I can recommend D&D 5e as a good set of rules. Even with looking up rules on the fly the rules play fast once you get down a few concepts. The players have tactical options without a laundry list of things to choose from. Combat was straight forward and quick. A good time was had by all.

The rule of thumb for D&D5e is that if there is a complex or a simple interpretation to a rule, the simple interpretation is usually the one.

Beautiful layout. The foot prints in the snow are "high class" additions to an already cool gaming area.

Lovely looking game! How'd you do the snow?

Thanks for the comments. The snow is Woodland Scenics Snow

For the foot prints, I had a small hand pump, that I used just a soft squeeze to puff away the snow. I use it to blow off dust or clean figures.

It is something like this:

Wow – that really looks great. For some reason, I thought the WS didn't look that good. How was the clean-up?

Good stuff!!

Great looking table. I would never have thought of sprinkling snow flock then puffing out footprints. So effective, so simple it's brilliant.

Great looking game!

Great looking board and fugures. But too 'wargamey' for my tastes. Seems like D&D has become a solid set of skirmish rules.

Xintao15 Apr 2015 7:18 a.m. PST

@Zardoz, it is not the D&D rules, it's me.

Every DM has a style. I lean towards more skirmish with a story. Other DM's lean more Story with an occasional fight. Honestly I love making terrain and layouts. It's what YOU make of it.

The combat mechanics are pretty basic. In fact, I intend on expanding them. But then again I never met a rule set I didn't want to tinker with.

Don't dismiss them cause I like skirmish.

@elsyrsyn I'll let you know, LOL

Yes, 5th Edition is actually far less 'wargamey' then either 4th or 3rd were. My current group actually runs the combat without any models or visual aids at at all, other than sketching out a quick situation map in the cases where it matters to them.
