Hi all Im interested in what sort of victory conditions you put on your games ? How do you decide when the battle is won or lost ? How do you decide when to end the battle if your are not playing an historical battle and the battle ends at night ? Do you use a time scale ? (eg 1 turn = 15 minutes etc ?) I'm playing at a 1:50 ratio and I'm not really sure about the time scale. |

The time scale usually depends on the rules you are using. But the time scale is not really relevant, why not try having the game represent a total time for example 2 hours and this could be 5 turns or 50 turns. A mate and I would look at the units left after we called the game was over ie after obtaining scenario objectives and decide who could fight another battle with what they had left. That person was the winner. |

Geographical objectives are usually better than enemy casualty objectives. |

The rules I play with have an "army morale" rule whereby after enough losses, one army will quit the field. That army is the loser. |

Other than a general meeting engagement, there should be a stated objective/s, whether that is to control a crossroads, occupy a town, destroy a bridge or two, exit X number of units off the board, take and hold two out of three hills, etc. |

These days I favour a set number of turns, and locations as objectives, with no casualty counting. Best to have at least four objectives so as to allow several ways the players can win. I set victory conditions to allow not just win/lose but also a draw as a possible result. Chris Bloody Big BATTLES! link bloodybigbattles.blogspot.co.uk |

Play with an umpire; let them rule as to how well each side fulfilled their scenario objectives. |

G'Day Gents When we have a game…each side writes down three different locations as objectives and puts them in envelopes… Each side has to write down a location that is on…your side of the table…middle of the table….the enemy's side of the table.. We then mixed up the envelopes, each side now randomly picks two envelopes. this system works for us…and sometime produces a whine or laugh from one side ;-) Best Regards Art |
