Just finished up rereading the Defense of Duffers Drift this morning – curious what others are reading

Getting out Sword and the Flame this evening to try a game or two using the scenario outlined in the book.

Grelber12 Apr 2015 1:41 p.m. PST

I'm reading Candide, largely because I wanted to see the source of the quotation "pour encourager les autres."

How to Make War (3rd edition). Getting ready for some Cold War gaming :)

bruntonboy12 Apr 2015 2:33 p.m. PST

The Contribution of the Bavarian Army to the War of 1866, not much really…

No, seriously I have read that one and rather fancy adding the Bavarians to my 1866 collection.

Whitechapel Gods (steampunk/horror) and The Handbook of Multisensor Data Fusion.

SBSchifani12 Apr 2015 3:29 p.m. PST

In the Steps of the Black Prince. Worth reading, but not as fun as the Burne books.

Salibaba12 Apr 2015 3:38 p.m. PST

I have been doing a lot of FIW reading over the past year, but I'm currently on the grand daddy of them all – Montcalm and Wolfe!

Just finished Down And Out In Paris And London (George Orwell) – although details are different in a lot of places it seems to be very applicable to today's world.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️Samurai! – Saburo Saki ww2 Japanese air ace. At the moment if I had to recommend 2 ww2 books from "the other side"- this would be one.

William Warner12 Apr 2015 4:57 p.m. PST

An Army at Dawn: The War in North Africa, 1942-1943 by Rick Atkinson and Roosevelt's Secret War: FDR and World War II Espionage by Joseph E. Persico. The first I'm reading on my own and the second I'm reading aloud to my wife while she does sedentary chores; she's fascinated with spying.

rustymusket12 Apr 2015 5:53 p.m. PST

"We Are In For It" The First Battle of Kernstown by Gary L. Ecelbarger. I found it used. It is very detailed; good for someone wishing to game ACW down to a company level in a small action.

Go Strong Into the Desert

I've been on a Colonial kick lately with a particular interest in the Sudan.

A Connecticut Yankee in Penn 's Woods.
I hoot to gleam some Yankee Pennamite scenarios. If not it will at least tell me who some of the major streets around here are named after.

Warrior of Rome series

basileus6612 Apr 2015 10:56 p.m. PST

This week?

Let me see. I've just finished Pierre Razoux "Tsahal" and started Christopher Browning's "The Origins of the Final Solution".

waaslandwarrior13 Apr 2015 2:38 a.m. PST

Last week I read "1177BC" by E H Cline.
Realy interesting book about the end of the great bronze age empires. I liked it so much I am considering to finaly start painting those Hitittes and Myceneans I bought ages ago!

Currently reading Victus, the fall of Barcelona by A S Pinol. About the War of Spanish Succession in Spain and Catalonia. It is a historical fiction book, but there are lots of contemporary images and maps in the book. If you are looking for inspiration to play out a siege, this is it!

Martin Rapier13 Apr 2015 3:42 a.m. PST

Just finished Viv Albertines 'Clothes, Clothes, Clothes, Music, Music, Music, Boys, Boys, Boys' which was very good.

Currently on Ori Orrs 'Yom Kippur War: These are my brothers' but for some reason had a flick through Peter Beales 'Tank Tracks' yesterday for the relvant chapters on Operation Jupiter.

Tales of the White Wolf – authorized fan fiction compilation.

Great War Ace13 Apr 2015 6:05 p.m. PST

The Golden Fleece by Robert Graves. Fantastic book, even more so the second go around.

Battles of the Dark Ages by Peter Marren. Nice read. I like his style.

Guns, Germs and Steel. Everybody knows about this one. I am late to the reading game, but the wait is worth it. Entertaining writing style.

Hmm, only three books, I am getting jaded I suppose….
