Here's a link to some pictures of a toy soldier display I did at a local Tartan Day celebration. The theme of the display was Highland troops in the 1890's on field exercises.

I am surprised that no one has commented on this wonderful – and nostalgic – display of 54mm Highlanders!

I moved to Washington, DC with my parents in late 1947, and had my first exposure to W Britains 54 mm figures. I treasured my set of highlanders, running with rifle leveled – as in the center of your picture. I sold all my Britains when I got into college for $.50 USD a piece. They were not in mint condition, and I had even repainted some of the Coldstream Guard, kneeling firing, and others, to show Guard cuff designs, etc.

One of you pictures of highlanders standing at ease, with the fore and aft service cap, suggests the old Authenticast line of 54 mm figures, solid cast. I had some with he dishpan wwI style helmet, in drap coat.

A wonderful display. Can you tell us more about the maker of your other figures in these pictures?

"Thanks for the memory!"

Thank you for your comments!

There are a variety of makers in the display. Imperial, Marlborough, Blenheim, Soldier Soldiers by John Tunstill, S&S Miniatures by Dave Sparrow, Sarum, Steadfast. Many of the figures are my painting like the ones you identify as Authenticast which the originals were sculpted by Holger Erickson. Some are made by me from available molds with my painting. There are some Rose Miniatures painted by me in toy soldier style. There are conversions from Britains recasts with heads from Rose. There are repainted Johillco originals and copies. It's quite a mix. The running highlanders are Imperial, but remind you of the old Britains charging Highlander. I hope this helps answer who some of the makers are.
