For those of you using framed canvas to create gaming surfaces, Michael's is having a 3 for the price of 1 sale.

And for those who use craft paints, their house brand is on sale for 6 for 1.99, that's a fraction over 33 cents a bottle (but not the metallics, apparently!).

I need more of the canvas bits and I'll have enough to do a 5' x 12' table in rearrangeable pieces. And I bought 96 bottles of paint – with what I already have I won't need much in the way of paint until somewhere around 2030 or so. Maybe. I have a LOT of figures to paint!

Whoa. I not heard of this before--could you explain more about using canvases as a gaming surface? Do you mean like canvases on internal wood frames, like for painting water colors? I am intrigued.

I fill the underside of the framed canvass with pink insulation foam. Glue it with Liquid Nails or something.

Now you have a surface that you can paint right on and cut into for rivers and ravines and so on.

For me, it only works with smaller dioramas. I have not tried interlocking them.

Wow! 1.99 for 6!

Rw, not my idea, saw it here on TMP recently and was intrigued with the concept.

Essentially, at least in my variation, I plan to paint the canvas surfaces as terrain and use the various pieces rather like modular terrain boards so that they can be rearranged.

Made a second purchase this afternoon at a different Michael's and now have enough for some varied options. But I did spend a bit more than planned. Would only attempt this with a sale on this scale (3 for 1) otherwise it is truly cost prohibitive except for smaller games.

Though not that small, I think the biggest canvas they have is 4'x5', pretty good size for a lot of games – just not changeable unless you paint over it which is certainly an option.

I will be using cheapest possible acrylic house paint to get maximum coverage at minimum price.

Hey, was that the sound of Augustus rushing out the door!? ; )

While some of the commercially available modular boards are great visually, I just don't see them possessing much durability (know someone who had a bunch and they quickly grew to have many four knuckle dimples in various and sundry places – or worse).
